I have just recieved my copy of custom PC, the special subscribers edition or something
, and to my surprise found a comparison of the new amd opteron range compared to the new xeon range.
Model 6176SE
Freq 2.3 GHz
Physical cores 12
ACP 105watt
DDR3 support 1333, 1066, 800
$1,386
However looking at the die of the cpu it seems to be just two 6 core dies crammed together on one chip. I kept on reading to find the xeon 7xxx series range, the fires true 8 core cpu.
Model X7560
Freq 2.26 ghz
Physical cores 8
Logical cores 8
TDP 130 watt
DDR3 Support 1066, 800
List price $3,838
Looking at the die of this it truly is an 8 core cpu rather than just two 6 cores together.
I am just wondering if anyone else knew anything about this and could shed some more light onto it?
PS: Apologies if there is already a thread on this.
Thanks
