first 4870 review

Well the vast majority of people don't go out and purchase a video card. It ususally involves people buying a PC and then buying another one every 3-4 years or so.
Most money is to be made by companies like Dell, HP .etc who put them in their PC's. Would be interesting also to see if ATI plans to release mobile version of these aswell.

That's one hell of a card for the money. Congrats to AMD. Glad to see competition again.

A 1gb 4870 will serve me well for the next year or so and if it starts to struggle, I can just drop another one in (though would need a new mobo by then)

Great times for the consumer.

Bang for buck hasn't been this good since Nvidia launched the 8800GT

Nice to see amd put the boot in this time around. r600 they obviously kind of faltered but i think around the time the 3870x2 came out things started to turn around for them. :)

Still wiating on this "can of whoopass" from nvidia, the only whoopass i can see is the whoopass on your wallet if you're mad enough to go gtx280single\sli.

Wow I couldn't believe my eyes!!!

We all talked about getting 2 4870s in CF at roughly the same price as a single GTX 280 to get better performance, but in one of those benchmarks two 4870s actually beat TWO GTX 280s!

It's a shame that CF is a bit hit and miss, but when it works, it seems to work VERY well:cool:

When can we expect these to turn up?

Originally 6 weeks after the single cards but ATI brought forward both the 4850 and 4870 selling dates so they may do the same with the 4870x2.

If not, then it should have been end of July, Ist week AUgust.
