T boned someone last night, young lad who'd likely just passed exiting a junction way too fast in the wet, by the time he saw me and hit the breaks he just slid out into the middle of the road, I braked but still hit him at about 30-40, I was driving a lease car at the time (Nissan Juke) and the airbags didn't go off which I thought was strange considering it was a fair wallop, I jumped out and the first thing I asked was if him and the passenger were okay, they were but he was clearly shook up, apologising over and over and shouting to himself that he wouldn't be able to drive and was going to lose his job. It was hammering it down with rain so I managed to calm him down and swiftly got details and some photos of the scene. Managed to get the car home but it was overheating, checked and coolant was dripping out the front.

I've gave all the details to the insurance company so now it's just waiting around, I'd be very surprised if the lad tries to deny blame but you never know. He had a black box fitted to his car so I don't know if that will give any details.

Quite surprised how calm I remained as he was clearly driving like an idiot and it was my first time experiencing any collision. Just glad no one was hurt.

He might not deny blame but can pretty much guarantee once he gets home his parents, friends, other will talk him into it not being his fault.

Good thing everyone was ok - been a few fatal crashes down this way the last few days :|

That's what I was thinking, especially with the cost involved (he mentioned his insurance was already £2100 a year) and potential loss of employment.

Heavy braking followed by big lateral G showing up on the black box.. Surely that plus the GPS info will paint a decent enough picture of what happened?

Good stuff, wasn't quite sure what data it collected.

If you had right of way on a road and he had a junction, he'll be at fault.

Yep, this is what I'm expecting but I have no witness and he has a passenger who could potentially lie.

I suspect that you have been very lucky and since you say:

It was probably borderline as to if the airbags would have gone off..

You've got insurance - let them sort it out and don't let it stress you out. Just answer all the questions that your insurance company asks you and send any correspondence from the third parties insurers straight to your insurer and let them deal with it.

Life's too short to worry about a lump of metal.

Freshly passed, probably never had to deal with these conditions before. Learned the hard way. It's surprising that some people don't realize how standing water can affect a car.

I'm actually too cautious in wet when driving :O

all the years cycling around london on 23mm slick tyres thought me that rain = crashes and everytime I've crashed it was wet.

so I'm actually TOO careful when driving now haha.

Sounds familiar. ;) Amazing how you only really notice how slippery road markings are when your tyres are substantially thinner than them.
