Hi Guys,

finally got my camera and have been playing about with all sort of settings - all the pictures have turned out rubbish so far but I had the opportunity today to judge a show and shine competition on a completely overcast and dull day and managed to get a few test shots in.

Again, none of them upto par but I do like this shot and played about with desaturation in photoshop. C&C welcome*

* I'm bloody hopeless so any tips would be very much appreciated.**

** I think its going to take the best part of 18 months to work out this camera. :D

Well since no-one else has said anything I will give my non professional opinion. I like the partial black and white effect but my eyes dont like the focal point being the middle of "subaru". It would be more comfy for me if the focal point was the S & U.

If you find it doesnt work out as a hobby then im more than happy to take that 5D off your hands to save you having to throw it away :p Im willing to pay the postage of course.

Its a start! You have obviously gone for the shallow depth of field look. Thats a point for the technical side. You have obviously thought about composition for the areas of focus agaisnt the rest of the frame which is the out of focus cars. You could have shot this with no cars in the back ground and the impact wouldnt be as strong.

I think a crop off the right hand side (the area as far as the car with hte very light-coloured wheels) would improve it significantly.

Good work.

Thanks for the comments guys - much appreciated. I also considered making the reflection B&W but in the end decided to leave it in. The cropping suggestion is a good point - I think it may look better if I cropped it from the point of the right edge of the kerb.

MrCake:

Yes I bet you would. ;)
