First Attempt at O.C. 2700K

Still pretty new to the overclocking business, so to start I went into the bios and enabled manual under the "extreme tweaker" tab, was feeling brave so set v core to 1.35 and tried for a 5.0 over clock on the maximum turbo setting, windows booted up, went to open cpu-z and it crashed, lowered the max turbo to 4.8, occt ran for about a min and a half before crashing, so upped the vcore to 1.37, ran for about 10 minutes this time before crashing, so lowered the max tubro again to 4.6 (kept the 1.37 v tho) ran occt for 1 hour (1min idle at start 5 min idle at end) large data set -using all the cores, it passed this test thankfully, again this is just my starting point, im sure I have a lot more to tweak, I kept my ram at 1600 and also kept hyper threading enabled.

Maximum temperature ranged in the 68-73 region however the CPUTIN was around 68 aswell it said the CPUTIN MAX was 127? so ocassionally it would read CPUTIN spiking at 127 (literally for a second) then drop back to 68ish degrees??

Sorry I cant give much more info but again still rather new to this, would you like any of the 14 files occt creates when the test finishes?

edite new idle temp reads 25 dgrees in asus ai suite II and 37 degrees in occt il go by occt's atm lol

edit : was recomended to uses ai suite auto tunning on extreme mode to see what it can do, then tweak from there - results - extreme mode maxed out at 105..6 x 44 @ 1.35 vcore

I just received my 2700k also, we could do with a uefi overclocking guide/tutorial if anyone knows where one is.

My board is a Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 so any guides for that would be appreciated also.

Yeh theres a lot of features to change, half of which I dont dare change XD, I changed voltage to a max of 1.37 then the multiplier up to get 4.6ghz

You can use the "Turbo50" option in the BIOS and select from 4GHz-4.8GHz

Whats the opinion on my overclock? I've posted an image of the first core result frm occt, the rest are fairly similar, I've kept hyper threading enabled and increased the vcore to 1.37, ran through an hour with no errors but max. temp did reach about 72,

I only ran it for an hour but thats because I get impatient, Ive been running it at this overclock with no crashes etc - played skyrim a lil and first level of battle field, converted an hours worth of video so looking pretty stable

DO NOT use the Asus 'extreme' option. 9 times out of 10 it will push the base clock far too high and put the voltage waaaay up.

Try these settings and report back (I know the ROG bios is slightly different from the standard Asus UEFI bios). Also depending if you want 4.8ghz or a lower voltage on 4.6ghz.

Multiplier: 48 (leave at 46 if you wish)
Phase: Extreme
Duty: Extreme
CPU Compatibility: 120%
LLC/Load Line Calibration: Ultra High (this should kill the majority of vdroop)
Voltage: Manual 1.37v

Obviously if stable on which ever clock you choose reduce voltage by a notch until unstable then back up to stable. You may also want to consider IBT for stress testing, from experience it tends to push things harder than OCCT or P95.

I would think 4.6ghz on a 2700k should be stable (at best) at around 1.32v, maybe less. Afaik the 2700k chips have a higher 'high clock low voltage' success rate than the 25/600K chips.

I'm looking through my settings and for vcore llc my options are auto, 0%,25%,50%,75% and 100% the 50% says its suitable for 4.2-4.8Ghz is this the option equivalent to "ultra high"?

vcore phase control is in extreme (or did you mean internal ppl to go to endabled?) but I dont seem to beable to locate cpu compatibility or "duty"

So downloaded IB and been doing basic runs of "10 times to run" on HIGH setting, slowly lowering my cpu voltage while keeping everything else the same and have got down to 1.33 vcore so far, but my maximum temperatures are getting rather hot I believe max temps across them all are "74 82 81 78" are these too high for max temps? Idle they are high 30s-low 40s (36-42) - depends on anything running in the backround, obv the "81" is at full load - which wont happen too often, are they safe for temporary testing?

Temps are about the highest you want them to go tbh. Going to need either lower clock, lower voltage or new cooler to get them to drop.

I'll have a look tonight to find the equivalent ROG settings, the ones I gave are from the standard p67/z68 uefi BIOS.

You should be looking at about either ~1.3v for 4.6Ghz or ~1.32v for 4.8Ghz for 24/7 use mate. 5ghz will require ~1.4v and makes the temps unmanageable.

Just FYI - I run mine @ 1.3v/4.6Ghz 24/7. I can manage 4.8 but think the 200Mhz extra ain't worth it, 5ghz is just too hot for me to control temperature wise even under custom water.

Voltage totally depends on chip IMO. Like me you seem to have a good chip but I've seen a fair few sandy chips need in excess of 1.36v to get 4.6ghz. But as I said earlier the 2700k chips seem to have a higher chance of high clock for low volts.

Currently thinking the same about my 4.8 clock, should hit a much lower voltage for 4.6, the higher temps the extra 200mhz brings isn't really worth it.

Thanks very much for the help, 1.33 seems to be my limit for 4.6, pushed it down to 1.32 but IBT crahsed, kept Hyperthreading enabled so far and only changed the vcore and multiplier
