Hi guys,

i'm working on my first attempt after years of looking into it for a few years.

i'm using a Thermaltake Xaser ||| case which i know it's old but i love it and has plenty of room.

Radiator: MagiCool 360 Copper Radiator III
CPU Block: Magicool CPU Cooling Block Revision II
CPU: AMD Phenom || 965
Graphic block: EK-VGA Supreme HF - Nickel Acetal (if they get some again)
Graphic card: Gigabyte radeon 4670

I'm not currently running any o.c. and not planning yet main reason to turn to WC is to cut the noises down specially while playing at night. Also noticed temperatures were way too high and with BF3 arrived i'm gonna be playing a lot.

Now first question is, will the loop descrived above be sufficient?
Also it seems the GPU block went out of stock while i was at the checkout so will need to wait for a new batch so should is start with only cpu and add the GPU block once it arrives or just wait?

Any advice appreciated :D

Welcome to the forums :)

Personally, i'd just wait as it's a hassle to re do a loop

The loop you have will be fine :)

But is there any point cooling a 4670?
Surely an air cooler would be cheaper and easier

Hi and thanks for the welcoming.

I know it sounds silly to wc a 4670 but that's what i got at the moment and to be honest it's doing the job it just overheats while playing bf3 and i thought while i'm doing the cpu i might do the gpu too.

The choise of gpu block is also aimed at it's compatibility with a number of cards so it should be simple to upgrade the card and simply move the block.

Also i had a look and could not find any decent air coolers for the card except for a replacement zalman one which is the same of the one currently on the card so spending 20-25 quids on that to obtain nothing it's kind of pointless.

I guess i'll wait until next week than, my co-pilot will have to wait a bit longer and meanwhile i'll have to just keep playing wow :D

Maybe i'll have finished the led lighting project too by the time it arrives and will post some pics :d

done, also cleared the heatsink from the dust accumulated but yet still experiencing high temps. i'll just wait and play with leds to kill time :D

Surely Bf3 won't work with a ati 4670 as its not dx11 compatible?? It wouldn't work on my spare pc that has Xfire 4850's.

It will work with those cards, but only in DX10. If your other pc is using XP then it wont work as XP is DX9 and BF3 doesn't support it.

well in the end all came in but the gpu block doesn't fit the card so i ended up just cleaning and using new thermal paste for the card. Temps now are a bit lower but still in the high 60 while playing bf3.

CPU on the other hand seems to be doing quite well. I have a 360 rad but only one 12cm fan scavanged from an old psu.. odd enough i can run it at 5v and control it with the fan controller so i can increase speed if needed.

So far it maxed at 50C while playing bf3 and also let it run some orthos tests wihout fan, with fan a low speed and with fan at full speed.

Temps were 65C with no fan, 55 with fan at low speed and around 47 with full speed.

I'm now considering adding 2 more fans as i think that if i will add the gpu to the loop i will need them.

Anyone that uses the EK-VGA Supreme HF - Nickel Acetal? What card is it on?

I'm now considering a gpu upgrade but need something compatible with the block as i don't trust coolingconfigurator.com anymore :\

ended up email EK asking more info. At first they told me that i should have checked for compatibility. 2 minutes later i got another email saying hang on a minute, this is a universal block and marked as compatible with that card, send us a pic of yours without stock cooler so we can check. Done and now waiting for a reply.
shame my nikon d70 seems to have died on me now :\
