First bad pixel

So I got my current monitor for £98, and it's a 22". The reason for it being so incredibly affordable was that the 'acceptable bad pixel' "rate" was 5 instead of the usual 1 (or 0 if you pay through the nose) - so when it turned up and had no bad pixels, I jumped for joy!

However, five months later, after I gently clean my screen with a screen wipe, a tiny bright red dot appears... now in my screen's defence I carry it from house to house (I live at University during term time, at my girlfriend or my Ma's or my best friend's during holidays) all the time, and it was dirt cheap. I've found if I gently stroke the bad pixel downwards once or twice it goes away for the rest of the day, but until that bad pixel this monitor was the best buy I had made in a long time!

It compels me to buy a much better monitor 'next time', but it hurts paying £240 for a screen the same size as one I know I can get for under £100...

TFTI:confused:

but something you may find interesting is that under EU law, a flat panel is not deemed fualty unless more than 0.0005% of the pixels are dead.

This means both the retailer and manufacturer can refuse to do anything for you, even if you have several bright pixels in the centre of your screen.

Although 0.0005% sounds a small amount. It equates to:

1440x900 = 6 or 7 dead/stuck pixels (6.48)
1680x1050 = 8 or 9 (8.82)
1920x1200 = 11 or 12 (11.52)

Although some manufacturers have a dead pixel policy that is inside this amount, a lot do not publish one so can use this if they so desire!
The same goes for retailers, if you get unlucky they can refuse to take it back or replace the item as it is not technically faulty unless it falls outside of these parameters which is very rare!

Sounds like the red phase of the pixel gets stuck on.

I have a stuck green pixel on my screen; been there since I bought it. No amount of massaging, strobing colours etc. will fix it :(

Red is the easiest to get rid of. Try one of those programs to massage it out or try tapping it with something

Op,

I would recommend a running Ubuntu... It has an orange bitmap by default. :cool:

I bought my 20" Ilyama TFT (4:3 aspect) for about £1000.00 about 6 years ago... The reason why monitors are so cheap now is because someone has to get the panels that used not to be sold retail. Do the maths... Think yourself lucky you only have a minor problem with a subpixel...

Not quite, yields have improved as manufacturing tolerances become finer and the market for LCD's is much larger than it was 6 years ago so you get the economies of scale.

You can still pay for no dead pixels though (my HP LP2475W has a zero pixel defect guarantee for instance).

OMG !!
I have had a dead red pixel for a year and never done anything about it.
Reading this and just rubbed it with a stylus and its gone !
Take some pleasure in the fact you have made me happy !!

I noticed a tiny red pixel on my iiyama

Had it years, going to give it a rub and see what happens

Reminds me of Aladdin
