linkie UAE are installing black box monitoring in all new cars.

How long till it arrives here ? (obviously it will be essential for 'anti-terrorism & national security' and you can only drive your car after scanning in your "optional" ID card ;))

Motoring fines in the Gulf are notoriously harsh, with the maximum penalty for red light running set at six months in prison and a 3,000 dirhams fine ($816 US) along with seizure of the vehicle on the first offense. Last month, 94 individuals were arrested for "illegal car washing."

I remember being in Abu Dhabi, the car we were in had a beep at the speed limit, same as the beep you get when not using a seatbelt, VERY annoying.

It is a scary thought though, even if you don't go speeding on purpose you can also break the limit when overtaking or not looking at the speedo.
