First boot, nothing on screen

Have you guys given up on me?

When i was plugging in the PSU, the 4-pin slot on the motherboard at a seal on it that you could take off for it to become an 8-pin. I took this off and connected the 8-pin from the power supply before discovering there was a 4-pin one on it aswell, would it make any difference if i put the seal back on and plugged in the 4-pin from the PSU?

A small, small town in South Wales that's not near anyone lol. Don't think that method is an option really.

One more thing, i've got my CD/DVD drive plugged in using the only IDE slot that's on the motherboard. Would that be reserved for something else and i need a SATA drive or is what i'm saying totally irrelevant?

I second a rebuild out of the case to pinpoint the issues. It could be a case short. You should have an 8 pin CPU power connector on your PSU that plugs into you board. Make sure thats plugged in properly.

you did use copper stand offs right?

Okay, i don't know what i've done but it's loaded. There was no POST beep but it's working! Time for me to check the BIOS and load an operating system.

The motherboard picture doesn't come up long enough for me to see all the PRESS [DEL] for Setup stuff so i've just gone straight to OS install. After it's installed, what button is it to hold on my motherboard to check the bios?

Okay i did it, still no post but when i booted up the computer restarted itself.

What you left the battery out overnight... in the space of an hour... what are you a dog?

Seriously... we thought my mates PC was toast... all it needed was an overnight battery out (with the cmos jumper changed to ON and the button left switched in).

We tried rushing it, like you clearly did and that didnt work... we were sure it was broken... overnight fixed it.

I can't guarantee it will work as you could have a different problem... but do try it tonight.

^ lol, that's some talent, eh?

Nah i hadn't even tried it for 5-10mins yet so thought that was worth a go before doing what you suggested. Thanks all the same though.

Don't you need video drivers installed for HDMI?

It just sounds like the screen isn't connected to a valid slot.

Well i've got it connected via DVI-HDMI to my TV now and it's fine. Only problem is i've now got a "Cannot find device driver" error stopping me from installing windows, apparently it's pretty common in ISOs downloaded straight from Microsoft.

You should push until the clip clicks into the slot on the side of the Ram stick, just out of curiosity what size PSU you running?

So, what do you think it was?

Also, the trick to get into the bios when you cant see on the screen is to keep tapping the button and not hold it down. ;)

I'm honestly not sure. It's possible it could've been the molex connector going into my IDE CD/DVD drive not being in properly but i wouldn't have though that'd stop the computer from booting. Whatever it was, i'm glad i didn't resort to booting it outside of the case when it was something very simple.

This is the same problem I have with my PC. I have tried most of the things suggested here but nothings working for me :(

Divide by Zero, could you explain how to reset the CMOS? Im sorta new to all this, would really appreciate it!

Figured out how to reset the CMOS but it still didnt work for me :( If my graphics card was broken the fan wouldnt spin right? Or could the fan still spin if it wasnt outputting anything?
