Hi All,

After having had only Dells (I know....) I am planing my first own build and i was hoping for some expert advice from you guys.

Basically I use my computer for gaming and surfing.
I want to be able to upgrade cpu and graphics in the future but i have no plans on SLI or Crossfire.
I have already bought a Samsung 226 monitor and a Lian-Li PC-7 case.
I plan to buy after the July 22 price cuts and my budget is around a 1000£.

This is what i have so far;

Zalman Fan Mate 2
5.98
(£7.02)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £124.99
(£146.86)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK) £87.99
(£103.39)
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
£5.99
(£7.04)
Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink £32.99
(£38.76)
OEM Optiarc NEC AD7170S Serial ATA 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
£16.99
(£19.96)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £56.99
(£66.96)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804) £74.99
(£88.11)
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard £81.99
(£96.34)
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM £279.99
(£328.99)

Subtotal £768.89
£903.45 inc VAT

My biggest doubts are regarding the CPU and motherboard. Should I go for a Q6600 and/or an Abit IP35-Pro instead??

Any help is much appreciated!

If I had your money to spend i'd get this, includes a quad core CPU, a better fan controller and faster RAM and is still under £1000. Bear in mind this will be even cheaper after the intel price drop :p

von Pluring what will you primary use your pc for?

People are spec'ing Quads but its worthless if your only playing games and surfing the internet.

Also are you going to be overclocking?

Thanks for the suggestions so far!
I will use it for gaming primarily and I plan to overclock.

The Akasa fan controller is in.

Will I be better off with the Geil Black Dragon Ram?
How about the motherboard? Is an Abit IP-35 Pro preferable over the Gigabyte if i get a Quad6600?
