As a newbee i just wanted to get some guidance on the spec i have lined up for my first build, i.e. if there's any glaring rookie errors that the experienced posters might spot. Budget was ~£1200. Also i'm aware of thermal paste and cable ties but are there any other consumables or hardware i should be looking out for?

As i'm an excel nerd, heres a table i prepared earlier....

PHANTEK ENTHOO PRO TEMPERED GLASS BLACK (already bought, no going back)
Ryzen 7 2700X
MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC (already bought, no going back)
RADEON RX 580
Corsair vengance 16GB DDR4 3000MHz C15
Asus DRW-24D5MT DVD
SAMSUNG EVO PLUS 970 500GB
CRUCIAL MX500 500GB SSD
CORSAIR RM650X MODULAR
WINDOWS 10 HOME
AOC G2590FX 25" 1920x1080 TN 144Hz FreeSync/G-Sync LED Gaming Monitor (already bought, no going back)
MSI Vigor GK80 USB RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (already bought, no going back)

if there's any glaring rookie errors
yeah, you should've asked for advice first before pulling the trigger :/

but what's done is done.

for gaming i'd advise that you swap the 2700x for a 3600/x
and get at least 3200mhz ram instead
don't really need to spend $$$ on the samsung evo plus when a cheaper ssd would be fine for the job...99.9% of the times it makes no noticeable difference: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...sata2-ssd-disappointing-performance.18861669/
don't get a white windows key for £100 when an el-cheapo grey key costs less than a couple of pints of beer
ditch the optical drive...1999 is calling and wants it back :P (really who uses one in 2020 lol)
lastly - with the money you saved...get a better graphics card (should've got a cheaper case too)

Thanks for the quick response, yeah after a month or so of research and driving myself mad i thought better ask now or never! Any particular brand M.2 to avoid or go to, i'll definitely look for a saving on that component if performance is negligible? P.S to expand on the GPU i have initially settled on is MSI RX 580 Armour 8G OC, open to moving on that but concerned about budget with a step up further

see my specs with no need to move on the budget :)

Cheers, i'll certainly take a look at that basket! My B450 came with a sticker "Ryzen 3rd gen ready" (not from OCUK), i assume that it does exactly as it says on the box and requires no BIOS fiddling for the 3600?
