Hi guys,
Just wanted a bit of advice on my first desktop build.
I don't want anything ridiculously powerful, I'm not a massive gamer, although I do want something that isn't going to get outdated any time soon.
So far I'm thinking,
CPU - £100-200, I'm not really sure whether to go Intel or AMD, I keep changing my mind haha.
GPU - Aiming for less than £100, may eventually install a 2nd screen once I've got the money for it, but like I said, not a heavy gamer so I don't need anything too fancy.
RAM - a couple of 4GB sticks will do me for now, should leave room for expansion but probably unnecessary.
Harddrive - Small SSD for Windows, Programs and probably a small swap file, 60GB or so should do it. My machine now is something stupid like 7 years old, but it has a decent 340GB SATA harddrive that will do me for Data.
Mobo - Pretty much got no idea, I think a standard ATX is the way I'll probably be heading, unless someone can suggest a reason otherwise?
Case - Not fussed, doesn't have to look anything special, just something that'll do the job.
PSU - Again not fussed, think I will almost definitely need a new one to replace the one I have now, just after something that does the job.

And I thinkkk that's everything, OS is covered, CD/DVD drive will be keeping the old one, Monitor I have now is pretty good so don't need to worry about that.

I look forward to hearing any suggestions :) Budget wise, cheap and cheerful hopefully, although I don't mind splashing a bit for performance.

Thanks guys,

Jack

For ~£60 extra you could get a Z77 motherboard and a i5 3570k, which will last longer and give better performance. I don't know if I read it right but it sounds like you are reusing your current hard drive. Anyway here goes:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x MSI HD 6850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £94.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £78.98
1 x Intel 330 Series 60GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £49.99

If he's reusing his current HDD my spec works out £60 cheaper and £425, so it's an extra £120 to go for a 3570k and Z77.

I would recommend it, i just wanted to be clear of how much extra it would cost.
