First Build - Budget of £600 for a Gaming PC

Hi Guys,

New to this forum and building PCs (My knowledge on PC stuff isn't great), snooped around on some old posts but thought I'd make my own!

I used to play a lot of games like LoL and CS:GO, looking to get back into it, but my laptop just won't do. Looking to play games like Apex, CS, CoD etc.

I've already bought my peripherals (below), just got the tower left to build. Looking to build something like a micro ATX to place on my standing desk, that would bring out the best of my monitor etc.

So far, I have picked the following parts below. Currently looking around £677, wondering where I could "downgrade" and which parts I shouldn't compromise on.

I can't decide between Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 7 2700X, as I heard that the newer gen Ryzen has some compatibility issues with some old motherboards.

Any tips or suggestions are welcome! Thanks guys!

Mouse - Logitech 502 Hero
Headset - Logitech G935

Monitor - ViewSonic XG2401 24" 144hz

Hi and welcome,

The links don't work because they are from a competitor, this forum is run by and paid for by Overclockers UK Retailer, so it's either best to just link from their own shop pages or make a list of parts only.

You can easily save some money on the SSD, Samsung drives are good but expensive. Look for a Sabrent Rocket. Fast and cheaper.

No compatibility issues with Ryzen 3600 and "MAX" boards. Would recommend it over the 2700X for better gaming performance.

Better PSU and GPU.

I saw that you wanted to bring cost down. However, with a 144Hz monitor, something like Ryzen 3600 + 1660 Super is going to be worth it, and the Zotac with 5 year warranty (if you register) is a good investment, so I would say £700 and call it a day. Wait and save a bit more if needed.
 
If you're building a gaming PC then definitely the Ryzen 5 3600 over the 7 2700X

The compatibility issues that you mention just mean that some MB need a BIOS upgrade to support the newer Ryzen CPUs. Any of the decent B450 MB are fine with the newer Ryzen chips. Tomahawk Max MB gets good reviews and is worth looking at.

Thanks for this! Was wondering, would not having a CPU cooling fan be an issue? I've heard that running micro ATX could result in poorer airflow?

Ahh I see, since it's my first build, I was worried that I wouldn't know exactly how to overcome this issue. I'll be getting a friend to help me with this, so hopefully he knows how to upgrade the BIOS, if necessary.
