hey, was wondering if anyone could help me with a few things. I have just purchased the Asus P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 motherboard. I currently have the X-Blade Gaming Mid-Tower Case - http://www.modthebox.com/review335_2.shtml was confused as to where the little black connectors go. this is going to be my first build, i know where everything else goes just not the connectors on the new board. Some probs aint needed like mic bias, mic in, speaker out etc but looking at the mobo layout in the manual im still confused, thanks :D

Someone can probably help more, but they're for the power button, reset, front LEDs (hard drive and power), from audio, USB etc...

They should all be labelled to some extent. Certainly the USB ones. The LED, Power, Reset etc.. go into pins on the mobo arrange in a rectangle. The specific pins depend on the motherboard and there should be a page in the manual to tell you which one is which.

I know its a bit vague, but hope that helps. If not, can you give more specific details?

In the motherboard box should be one of these,

ah thanks a lot stulid yea i see it now on the layout "System Panel Connector". Was a little confused because on my old board quite a few of the case connectors wasent in apart from power/reset/audio etc. does it matter what order i plug the connectors in? and can all of them be put in like mic bias, spkr in/out etc.

Ah many thanks Stulid thats a big help and so clear i will deffo have a go at installing my board myself

You can fit all the connectors and in any order.

Sometimes a case doesnt have a little speaker to give the beeps at start up.

The mic etc should be part of a set of connectors that will connect along the bottom of the board into a header called AAFP (analog audio front panel)

Yea might be why m8 :) i dont have no speaker that makes the beep and looking at the black connectors theres quite a few stuff like Data +/- GND1/2 Return l/r HDD Led Power Led +/- VCC1/2 etc i have no idea what these are except the leds.

and lol, off topic but im to from WSM Stulid :D small world.

Most modern cases have a cable that comes from the Headphone/Microphone connectors and ends in two connectors (called HD audio, AC97) I think your case is probably old enough to be just AC97 only, so this picture shows where to connect the pins (the right hand side)

Also along the bottom are USB headers, the y are wired like this,

Thanks a lot i will give it a go when my psu arrives. I could put the stuff in myself was just the little connectors i was confused but with those clear as day pics you posted i should be fine :)

The most important one you need to get the PC working is the "PWRSW" cable that is used to short together briefly the two pins on the front panel connector. (technically you can also get away without this if you use a flat head screw driver to quickly short the two pins together)

Everything else can be done after, you certainly dont need harddrive/power LED to check the PC boots up.

You can even get away without the RESET switch.

Then once you know the PC does boot up etc, you can switch it off and sort the rest of the cables out.

Yea good plan, yea i thought aslong as the power/reset was in rest shouldent matter. I dont use the front mic/speaker socket to be honest but i do use the usbs for my zen etc. was just confused as to what the rest of the stuff was or if it was important. shame i cant find the the mobo layout from the manual online i could map it out befor hand :\

finally just screwed the mobo to the case, so far i have put in Reset SW, Power SW as they was maped on the mothboard itself and LED +/-. Was unsure of which ones was the usb ports as all i got is Data1 -/+ etc. not worried about speaker/mic just the 2 front usb ports.

also on your image with the mic port all i have is mic in/ bias speaker l/r return l/r how would i go about settign them up in the aaf just for the future.
