First build for 12 years!

You can't overclock with the H77, as you spec'd a K edition CPU it makes sense to have that option, so use a Z77. The mini-itx mobo I used is a Z77, includes wifi and has a solid 3 year uk based warranty.

I think you can still use the multiplier but you can`t alter the voltage, on the H77 boards, so the OC is limited.

From Intel forum.

Thats where your wrong Nipo,
It does alow you to go as high as the turbo multiplier will go wich is if i dont mistake 39x wich would kick your cpu to 3.9ghz.
And besides that it does alow you to play with the blck, most cpu's can do a 105 base clock wich would bring the cpu ip to 4.1 ghz

What i think Nipo is trying to say is basicly no u cant overclock like with a Z chip set push the multiplier to like 45x and run that way @ 4.5ghz.
In that case yes thats true.

but stil you could overclokc it a bit true the above mentiont methode.

So, you raise the BCK to 105 and the multiplier to x39 and you get about 4.1Ghz . How is that underclocking.

I've never touched a H77 mobo simply because they are priced so close to the Z77. I dont see the incentive to buy one even if you are using a non K CPU.

From my understanding the multiplier can only be adjusted down and the Vcore is locked. The PCI-E lanes also can't be "split" so no Xfire or SLI support either.

This is where I'm up to so far and it's down £1.50 from my first post :D

In terms of Case & Motherboard size, I'm really looking at the ATX Form factor. I've included honosuseri's first motherboard suggestion, that seems to tick the required boxes and saves quite a few pennies. I've left my original case in the basket purely because I'm undecided, I'm quite likely to change it.

I had a read through the SSD bench marking link posted above and it seems to come in better than the Samsung. That and the 5 year warranty is swinging me the OCZ direction, as always i'm prepared to be persuaded otherwise.

I have a question regarding RAM. The motherboard in the basket above states '4x DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules' am i right in saying it will only use 1600 of the 2133Mhz unless overclocked? That's fine if so, just checking.

You can run RAM faster than 1600Mhz, it doesnt make a great deal of odds on this socket though.

I used the GEIL Evo kit as it's a great price for the speed whilst on offer, as you have a lifetime warranty makes sense to get the fastest kit you can for the price. It's colour I thought tied in nicely with the mobo too.

Have a look at the kingston genesis 1600mhz RAM if you really want to save £10ish, put that back into the case budget then maybe ;)

Can I just say thank you to everyone who responded in this thread. :)

You are welcome, hope I helped more than hindered lol

That antec case I must confess I prefer to the Bitfenix Ghost. I can understand you not wanting to fork out for the R4. Look forward to seeing it all come together :D

Damn, that Antec P280 is pretty much half price from where it used to be.

Looks good, x2 830's
jealous :D

That case is a bargain. If you like how it's looks then your onto a winner.

I can't wait to test the boot up time :D, my current 5-6 year old Dell takes forever...

You are welcome, hope I helped more than hindered lol

Absolutely. The memory was a good call, the PSU was a good call, and everyone seems to be raving about the 830's. And if the R4 has a £35 reduction in next week's 'this week only' deals I may well go for it :p

Batch of components #2 ordered :D

+ Previous items = £628.92

Only missing 1 last thing... a bloody case! I just cannot decide which one

I've looked into it a lot, the reviews are great, it's good value but...

I just can't get over how ugly it looks :(

I do like the look of that but the amount of mesh covering concerns me a little, i have to look at cases towards the quieter end of the spectrum.

None the less *goes to check reviews*
