First build for 12 years!

Antec p280 is a good Large case which keeps the PC quiet.
Remember about PSU because some have short cables and will be to short for the case.

Despite falling in love with the Corsair 550D I went with the P280 in the end, I just couldn't justify the £55 extra. So the final element of my build has been ordered:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Antec P280 Super Midi Tower Case - Gun Metal Black £64.99
Total : £64.99 (includes shipping : FREE).

+ previous items = £693.91 Final cost of build.

Now it's time to get excited! :D

would this build be ok enough for playing skyrim and bf3? i want something similar, though with a keyboard and mouse and without windows as just bought win8, but unsure on how good a setup this would be for gaming, which i do very little of.

out of interest, can you stream a dvd/blu ray from your pc to xbox media centre? i watch downloaded programs this way (download on pc and play by xbox over network) and would consider putting in a blu ray drive if possible

edit: i also have 3 screens, with 1 having the choice of hdmi or dvi, and the other 2 having the choice of either dvi or vga. i can go down to just 2 screens if needed to make this sensibly work at this budget

Built last week and installed windows today

Few other early thoughts:

1 x Seasonic G series 550w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £76.99

Firstly the annoying, the cables would not reach from one corner of the case to the other. When you're spending £75 on a PSU you expect the cables to be long enough at the very least. Luckily with a little jigging around i could get everything plugged in without extension cables but i'll certainly need them if i ever want to put anything in the top 5.25" bay.

Secondly the pleasing. I did a very quick test this morning of how many watts the PC was using. I want to stress this was a very quick test and I'll be trying again later to confirm. After booting up and sat at the login screen of windows the PC was consuming ~35W. Now I'm not sure how much this is down to the PSU vs the CPU, SSD, Mobo etc but to me that seemed impressive. If that's close to accurate and idle power consumption is about 35W I'll be a very happy bunny.

*To be honest the more i think about it the more that seems too low, maybe i misread the reading, I shall report back later after retesting.

1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £83.99

Getting everything plugged in and setup afterwards was an absolute breeze. I think the paper manual that comes with the board is the best manual of anything I've ever brought.

Couple of small down points, I cannot access the BIOS when my TV is connected to the HDMI port. I shall be flashing the lastest BIOS tonight, hopfully that will resolve it. Secondly some of the sockets on the back are not very rigid, when you plug things in it tends to bend a fair bit which is unnerving.

I noticed my buddy Idleman used the cheaper optical drive @ X22. I have the Liteon drive i'm spec'ing. It's X24 and you can lash its firmware to make it a iHAS-524 to unlock the extra features......if you like tinkering ;)

Hi, I don't suppose you could point me in the direction of the guide you used to do this?

I did find a guide by googling but figured I'd put my trust in OcUK members first. Also which software do you use for the additional features (LabelTag etc)?
