Hi all,

New to OCUK but seeking advice.

I need a new PC as mine has sadly died and it was an Ivy Bridge setup from 2012 but I havent really kept up in that time and fully expected to go down the Intel route again but with Ryzen I see a way to do infrequent tasks I do such as video/image processing done better than a similarly priced Intel.

The Ryzen 1500X is no cheaper than an i5 7500 but I am torn as I have seen some memory issues with Ryzen in terms of frequencies and iffy game benchmarks?

Should just go all out with Ryzen as although my main focus will be games the fact it can cope well with video rendering and other multi threaded tasks is it worth the investment?

It looks like the motherboards may be a tad cheaper if I go down the B350 route but will I be missing out on any features?

As a new platform I am a tad concerned so was wondering how people have been getting on so far this week (and month with Ryzen 7) before I make a purchase...

Thanks

Hello. I have a ryzen 7 and a b350 motherboard and so far have had no problems.

The main advantage of the x370 is sli and extra sata, m.2 and usb ports, but i think for most users the b350 has enough. Slightly better overclocking headroom on most x370 boards as well due to better power delivery. But by the looks of things it only equates to about 100mhz. My 1700x is running at 3.9ghz at 1.3v on my msi tomahawk

On the ram issue the motherboard manufacturers have been pushing out bios updates which have improved things. But getting ram running over 3000mhz is still a bit hit and miss. Doesn't mean a 3200 kit wont work. It just might not run at full speed.

The gaming stuff in my opinion is a little over blown. Yes in cpu limited situations an overclocked kabylake cpu will give marked better performance. But its quite rare that people will actually game at cpu limited situations and ryzen is similar in gaming to somethink like an older haswell cpu. Ryzen is great at gaming. Kabylake is better, but only by a few %

In terms of multitasking and content creation. Streaming, video editing and some digital art in my case. The ryzen 7 really does stomp on my older i7.
