Hi all, Long time viewer first time poster here. I Am about to build my first ever PC and could use some guidance. Ive spent the last week researching and I have my Basket filled with everything I want, so I don't need help with the Spec (unless there is something horribly wrong with it :o )

basket-1.png

Havent decided on the HDD yet and I might buy new fans for the case and the H100, as well as maybe some LED's (to make it look cool :p ) But my main reason for posting is to just check (with people who actually know about computers) that everything is compatible and will work together without any bottleneck problems or worries etc (as I am really new to all of this  )

I also have some random (Retarded Questions) If you guys would be willing to help answer & guide me there but ill post them later ;) (Most are about Wiring & Air Flow  ) also if it matters the computer is mostly All Day Online Gaming (Mainly BF3) as well as random SP Games to pass the time... yes I have no life :(

Hoping to Order by Saturday
thx4readin, Kevin

EDIT: Almost Forgot, I wanted to say a Big THANK YOU! to everyone involved with Making and Posting the Guides on these forums, they are Brilliant!

Firstly, everything looks compatible to me, so it should all fit together :)

A few questions though:

1) Do you really need an X79 board with a Sandybridge-E chip? From what you've said, the use of it will be gaming, where an i5-3570k is the most popular chip. SB-E is only needed in workstation type machine, where there is a lot of hyperthreading/many cores are needed. So consider saving yourself some money, performance in games won't be effected at all.

2) 1250w is an obscene amount of power, you could probably power triple Sli 680s on 850w, so you could downgrade the power supply. I would also change to something made by XFX or Corsair, as I would say they make some of the best stuff out there, and it will be quieter than the OCZ.

3) SSD wise generally the Samsung 830 series, Crucial M4 series and Intel drives are regarded as the best, so take a look at them instead of the OCZ. The samsung cash back starts soon (or has started) so have a look at that as well.

4) If going for a quiet system I would definitely change the fans on the H100. Be aware there have also been reports of pump noise, so watch out for that.

Go ahead and post your questions, that's what we're here for :)

Hi thanks for the reply, Ill try to respond to your questions as best I can (I was hoping to avoid Judgement or scrutiny over the order itself but in a way I expected it :p )

1) I realise I could probably go for something smaller/cheaper but fortunatly money isnt too much of a concern (within reason) and I practicly Live infront of my PC so not only does it need to perform well but it needs to last many years without worrys of upgrading.

2) the PSU came recomended from a really good friend, as for the watts I agree it seems insane, but right now the 1250W is cheaper than the 1000W  but I could change to the cheaper 850W If you think that would be a better choice.

3) again it was a friend that reccomended OCZ to me (hes had allot of good experiances with there products and support) but honestly other than the size differance I struggle to understand the differances.

4) thanks for the heads up, im thinking about replacing the h100 fans with these > http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-005-CS

Im still trying to organise my stupid questions so ill try to post them in a couple of hours :P

Thx4TheReply, Kevin

To be honest your better of with the i5 and just save the money till the next upgrade since the SB-E prolly wont last much longer.

750 / 850W is best since it will run much more efficiently.

The Samsung and Crucial drivers are the best and have very high reliability. Also they are better in everyday benchmarks.

Is there any specific reason for the H100 over a proper water cooler or air cooler?

being new to building im not confidant enougth to attempt water cooling. I did look at the Noctua NH-D14-2011 Dual Radiator but the installation for it looked a little complicated  and personally I thought it looked horrible :p also the H100 comes with the Thermal Paste applied (Another part of building I wasnt comfortable with) :D

Total : £1,237.94 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Will do all you need it to in a box that's got a footprint smaller than a sheet of A4, the 3570k will stay current for years to come, it would take a step change in game programming to make it obsolete any sooner than the SB-E Ie. games that really use multiple cores heavily.

If you want to heavily OC the CPU put a 10mm Scyth 120mm fan on the underside of the CPU cooler (requires removing and inverting the black shroud) but you shouldn't need to for anything but an extreme OC.

But if you have to have SB-e then enjoy it, you wont be the first person on this site to buy a higher spec than required, however i doubt you will ever see the difference outside benchmarks.

Two motherboards listed?

The case can take 10" long cards,
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=210

Expansion Card Standard size long cards capable (10”)*

The Gigabyte GTX680 OC windforce is 275mm long, which = 10.8 inces.

My bad, changed the basket mid stream and didn't delete the old stuff, sorted now.

As for the 680 not fitting, again my bad have seen them in, this is from the silverstone facebook page, get the zotac one or another 10" if your going the SG05 route. the 9" refers to GPU's with power on the back rather than the top. Oh and you dont have to have the radiator in the pic its just the way they did that one.

And with an EVGA

thx Gav for the alternative But tbh Im pretty happy with my Basket for the most part (as ive bin saying through my posts) I made this topic more to check that everything compatible, (and to get help with some random retarded questions that ill be posting later :p )

H100 not really worth the hassle.

could you explain what you mean by hassle? (from what Ive read & seen in videos it doesnt look difficult to setup) but if theres a issue with it id like to know (unless its sound related as Im not really worried about the noise levels too much tbh)

if you wanna go sb-e, its the 3930k or bust. the 3820 just isnt worth the $$$

again im not to worried about cost. long story short this is a one off deal for me, Ive got close to £2000 to spend & (without going into detail) its ethier spend it or waste it, (no option to save it)

Thx Bacon I think I will go with this > http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-052-OC
unless youd disagree :p

Thanks to everyone whos posted so far, IM still doing allot of research (trying to figure out things for myself) but I will be posting some retarded querstions later for parts of the building process that im not 100% certain on :p

Hey Guys Ive pretty much orderd my parts, now its time for some of those stupid questions i have :p

One thing im very uncertain about is how to get the best airflow with what I have, from what Ive read I belive that the face side of the fan is the Pull side (& the back of the fan with the braces & wires is the Push side) please correct me if im wrong. Below is a quick Pic I made to show my current plan for the parts Ive orderd.

casefans.png

(the 2 fans going on the top are >
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-004-CS )
mounted through the case like so >
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=cmdKu5i2ZB8#t=249s
A friend reccomended that I use the 2 fans on top (like the video) & also have the stock fans from the H100 mounted to the other side of the radiator (inside the case) but im not sure wether thats a good idea or not. (and what direction they should all be if i should do it.)

Next Question is about Fan wiring My plan is to have the Fans on the Radiator (wether its 2 or 4) connected to the H100 Block, and then the 3 Case Fans conncted to this > http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-072-BX (If anyone can see any flaws in this plan please let me know, I am aware that I might need to get Fan Cable Extensions (but ill order that later if needed)

and the last silly question is about static, (Ill be building on the cardboard that comes with it and the floors are wooden&Tiles so I dont expect a problem) but ive read allot of conflicting information about how to play it safe, some people saying to just touch a piece of metal and others saying to have the PSU on & touch it. Id just like to clear up what the best course of action would be :D

again this is my first ever build so sorry for the silly questions, I just wanna make sure I do a good job :)

Thanks4yourtime

wish I could help m8 but Im a first time builder too (& have some similar questions to you, would be interested to see some answers) also the corsair cases look amazing :D
