Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing OK. Looking to build my sister a new PC. I haven't built one in years so could do with some help.

Important points so far:
  • Not into massive AAA titles, more like sims 4 and other such games. Few city builders etc (would be nice to get as long a life out of it as we can)
  • Desktop size pc preferably so leaning towards something like the Lian Li Lancool 205M Mesh Micro-ATX or the Jonsbo D31 Mesh Micro-ATX (maybe the screen version but not sure)
  • Not yet decided on a white or black build.
  • Don't require a screen, keyboard, mouse or OS
  • Would like a AIO if the budget allows.
  • Budget set at £1000 (maybe able to squeeze a bit more if it's going to make a big difference)

Here is my first draft, Not built a micro-atx so flying blind a bit here:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £672.85 (includes delivery: £7.99)

The CPU is incompatible with the motherboard, as is the RAM. Don’t bother with the big AIO cooler - just get a £30 Assassin. RAM should be 32 GB or more - if you play Cities Skylines 2 then I have read that it will enjoy 64 GB. For the GPU go for the 12 GB B580 for £250 or the considerably more powerful 16 GB RX 9060 XT for £315.

"Budget" PSU which is normally a no-no, but the 550w version reviewed well on Toms Hardware so should be fine.

Slightly over £1000 but you get a hefty leap in GPU performance going from a 9060XT to a 9070.

While it seems you were aiming for a white theme I'd highly recommend against it, you do pay a bit of a tax on certain products due to it.

That said, for light gaming it is a bit overkill, and depending on the city builder you might be better off with a 7600X3D and a 9060XT.

new phanteks case as an alternative to the lancool and a 5060ti 16gb rather than 9060xt (5060ti faster but better $ per frame on the 9060xt 16gb
slightly beefier vrm's on the mobo than the b850m-x..just in case you put a more powerful cpu in, and a beffier psu also, fully modular, so room to upgrade gpu down the line as well (generally you'll prob upgrade your gpu way before warranty expires on psu so can do for next upgrade).
just alternatives to above builds...and for £20 more just put in the 360 aio @dfour
