Hi, built my first system yesterday everything went well until I started it up, all the fans are spinning, the lights on the mobo are on and the hdd is spinning. However there is no picture, my graphcis card is a xfx 4890 and I have tried putting in my old 3870 but still no luck.

Can anyone suggest anything that I can try? I have also tried three monitors, a 17", 22" and 24" monitor all through vga.

Thanks

My spec is:

pt6 motherboard
I7 cpu
6gb ocz ram
650w corsair psu
500gb hdd

Have you plugged in both the power connections for the motherboard (the atx and the 4/8 pin). Have you plugged any required PCIE power connectors into the graphics card?

That looks like unconnected PCI-E leads on the GPUs.
Make sure they're sitting in tight. Same for mobo power.

If it still doesn't work I'll take a look at PSU and try swapping it with different one if possible.

This is what ive done so far:

Tried the different pci-e slot with both graphics cards
Tried one stick of ram in different slots
Tried no ram, however I dont have a chassis speaker so I won't be able to hear any errors if they occur
Taken everything apart and reassembled them
Tried different monitors

Rang the rather grumpy asus support but their support was useless due to not having a mobo speaker. Why did it not come with the case/ motherboard and where can I get one? Tried getting one from my old computer but cant find it.

I can't try a different psu, I have taken everything out of the case and tried booting it from there but no joy lol.

Any other suggestions or is the motherboard dead?

Thanks

usually with the more recent asus boards they give error messages during post etc. by plugging in speakers to the onboard sound card. Has yours got one of these?

I don't think so... unfortunately I don't know much about this but aren't these speakers a specific type? I didn't get one with any of the equipment, will it send out the errors the the HDA?

Phoned overclockers and I think they are going to send me a replacement, but would like to get it sorted otherwise... How long do RMAs usually take?

The asus boards actually play messages through normal speakers. This is instead of the more normal pc speaker on the motherboard that just beeps.

Depends on how busy they are. What I have done in the past is to buy another board and send the dodgy one back for a refund rahter than a replacement. However you need to be sure the original one is definatly broken or you may end up with two if they can't find a fault.

If you do the more normal replacement you will have to send the dodgy one back first.

After toying with it all day I finally got it working, not sure exactly what I did but im typing this message from it... Installed windows 7, everythings running fine however things don't seem to be that silky smooth but maybe thats the beta os. Thanks for the advice.
