I've jst finished putting together my first ever build, I connect it up power it on and I'm getting no video??
Parts - Mobo: MSI P55-CD53, Video - ATI x1950 (taken from current PC)
Troubleshooting so far - Reseated PCI-E card and power - no effect. Tried card in original system - works fine get video.
Then decided I'll try removing RAM - no sys beeps. Reset CMOS - still no beeps.

Have I forgotten anything obviuos before I call up asking for a replacement motherboard??

Any help would be great
Thanks all

Sorry should have mentioned - When all connected all fans spin (CPU, Graphics and case) All Lights seem fine on mobo also.

tried building it out of the case?

Plugged the CPU power into the motherboard.

Sorry, How do you mean, plugged the CPU power into the mobo? When putting the CPU in I dropped into place, lining up the marker, clipped it down applied thermal paste, put the fan in place and plugged the fan into the motherboard.

If it helps, the mobo has CPU Phase LEDs and when I power on only the Phase 1 is lit?

Hi,

I have no answers for you, but i was at my friends house today trying to solve a very similar problem to yours.

We built the computer out of the case and had the bare minimum connected. like above all the fans spin but no signal from the video card.

My question is could the PSU be a factor in this, even though the fans spin could the PSU be only giving enough power for them due to being broke / faulty?

or could a faulty CPU cause no video to the moniter.

sorry to hijack your thread but just seemed to be very similar our problems.

Tim

Try with another GPU.

Also, is the 4-pin CPU power connector firmly connected ?

yeah, all power connections have been reseated.
I dont have another GPU unfortunately. I was using the x1950 from my old machine. I currently have the GPU back in there and it's working fine

I'm going to try build outside the case andsee if that makes a difference. Will let you know, thanks for all your help

Just out of curiosity, how many motherboard standoffs should I he using? I currently only have the 6 to which my motherboard is in place but have another 7 in the bag??

Ok Guys,
Just built it outside the case on the kitchen table on cardboard and the anti-static bag. Worked like a dream.
So there's an electrical connection (short) in the case somewhere? I've replaced the 2 standoffs I put in but cant even move the 4 pre-installed. What am I missing?? Ive got 6 holes in the mobo does that mean I should only use 6 standoffs??

Normally would expect 9 holes in a MB for mouting into the case, however looking at a picture of the board can only see 6 so I would say 6 is correct for this board. You only have standoff's in place where you can put screws into them.

Is definitely a short somewhere though rather then your GPU card.

THANK YOU to everyone who posted in here. Turns out it was the case shorting the mobo. Built it on the kitchen table and everything worked great. Remounted the mobo and put back together again...
Lets just say I'm a very happy customer... Saved me a call reporting a faulty motherboard... Thanks again guys
