First build - Part check please to avoid idiocy

I've never built a PC before, but my ageing Dell XPS needs some updating. So after doing a bit of research and watching this subforum I figured I'd give it a go. I have a few of these components (sadly the GPU amongst them...would rather have had the Vega 56 but was too late) but need some others so I'd grateful for any assistance on picking out sensible choices. System for gaming at 1080p - I have a 24inch 144khz Gsync monitor.

Is that all ok? Wasn't sure about the PSU or the RAM in particular, or am I overspending anywhere? Is the Bitfenix formula series 550w 80 plus gold power supply a better option? (I know the 2600 is cheaper but the Precision Boost of the x means I don't have to worry about overclocking) And was going to use the extra fan as a second rear exhaust. Am I missing anything? I'm assuming I'm good with the pre-applied thermal paste on the stock fan too.

The Vega 56 is still quite cheap at only 329.99.

As I said, I sadly pulled the trigger on a 1070 before the Vega 56 deals on here went live, and then compounded the error by getting a (cheap) second hand 144 Gsync screen. So that's immutable. Is everything else ok? Like I said I've never built a PC before so that part list is just based on watching these boards....

Well, I think everything else is ok.

Maybe get a BD-ROM, not a DVD/CD?

Considered that...but they're around 5x the price, and whilst it'd be handy I'm happy cutting corners there for the time being.

Also quick question (on top of anything else I've done wrong) - would I be foolish to drop the SSD size to 240GB? Would the StoreMi feature work better with the larger drive?

technically intel will give you far better performance at 1080p due to clock and ipc speed

also drop PSU to 550w

So StoreMi not worth it with the 3TB and 480GB set up I have listed?

Thanks. Was going AMD for longevity really...my trusty Phenom II has lasted me coming up to 9 years now! When I was deciding I looked at the frame rates of the I5-8500 vs the 2600 and it seemed pretty close, except the CPU utilisation of the Ryzen was much lower. Plus in value for money terms the FPS gains didn't look worth it (first time build jitters and not wanting to go too OTT for little benefit).

The PSU choice has proven difficult though as I can't work out what makes a good choice and what to aim at. Not so long ago all these new builds had SuperFlower PSU's, and then of late I've seen the Antec, Bitfenix and bequiet! all recommended. I know not to cheap out on the PSU but beyond that don't know how to pick one. Also is the 650watt PSU for £5 more a stupid move?(100watts for the price difference seems like a bargain!) Does it generate more heat or is there some other disadvantage?

Also, is using the HF-14 as an additional rear exhaust fan to create negative pressure (R5 stock fans left in situ in the front and rear) sensible to dissipate any excess heat? Just being super cautious...I know I could probably have not bothered with the extra fan but I thought it'd be sensible to include it with the x CPU.

Thank you. Need? Probably not and I thought about ditching it, and then changing my case choice. But I like the R5 design and having the optical drive lets me ditch the external I currently have. Ultimately in having it the only thing I have to do differently is ensure there are appropriate drive bays....unless I'm wrong?
