Hello everyone, this is my first P/C build and I need some advice.
I have assembled the hardware and powered up for the first time, I have the BIOS screen and have at this stage only set time & date and the boot priority to optical drive. My motherboard is an ASUS P7H55-M-USB3.
At this stage do I install the windows operating system? There is a support disc that came with the motherboard with drivers etc. on, when do I load this?
It also states that a copy of the original BIOS should be made on a USB flash disc, can I make this copy on a floppy connected to a USB port ?
I am using a WD 640Gb sata3 HDD which I have connected to a 6Gb header on the motherboard, in the BIOS there is a setting termed Third Party Storage Config that gives options for the Marvell controller, should this be set to IDE mode or AHCI mode.
The user guide book is'nt very clear ( at least to me, being a noobe )
I assume that because the P/C started up OK in BIOS that the hardware is functioning as it should ?
Thanks for your help

Set the optimal settings by pressing the relevant function key, then save and reboot. Once the OS is loaded, you can change the boot priority by having your HDD as priority over the optical. That's it. I wouldn't worry about backing up the BIOS just yet.

At this stage do I install the windows operating system? There is a support disc that came with the motherboard with drivers etc. on, when do I load this?

Once the system fires up, insert the Windows disk. It will boot from the disk and start the installation. Just follow the on screen instructions. Ignore the disk that came with the Mobo because the shipped drivers are most likely out of date. Grab the upto date drivers from another PC or wait to the OS is loaded. Get these drivers from the manufacturers website.

It also states that a copy of the original BIOS should be made on a USB flash disc, can I make this copy on a floppy connected to a USB port ?
Don't worry about this.

Just leave as default.

Correct althought do some stress testing and benchmarking just to make sure.
