Hi,

I've been browsing the the forums for a while and last week I decided to register and ask for some advice on a first build... I'd been inspired that it would be possible to achieve myself (with advice).

However, by Friday my account hadn't been validated by a mod.
Unfortunately, impatience got the better of me so I called sales to doublecheck some parts I was considering were compatable. I was then made an offer for Saturday delivery at no extra charge, so went ahead and placed the following order.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66I-01939)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail
Abit IP35 Pro XE Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4650 512MB DDR2 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (471846200-9702)
Samsung SpinPoint F1 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD642JJ)
OCZ ModXStream Pro 400w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 X 2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX8500D2K2/4G)
Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black (No PSU)
Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Total cost £460 approx

Having put everything together and upon start up, i've encountered a couple of problems...

The first one is the CPU fan.. it's making an all mighty racket.. doesn't sound healthy at all. sounds like a garden strimmer. :(

Also, I have CMOS checksum Error (see image).

I'm sorry, I'm no techie at all. Hopefully, this is something simple to solve.

What have I done wrong? Hope someone can help. :)

Thanks guys!

The jumper appeared to be where is should be, but I took it off and put it back on for good measure. It's on the 2 pins according to the manual.

I had checked the fan for an obstruction but didn't notice anything, however, upon closer inspection there was indeed a problem with a wire getting slightly caught on one side. Feeling a bit silly about that to be honest. :o

Not sure if the checksum effor is sorted. Now installing Vista.

Hope this goes well.. Let's see how this will compare to an ancient Mesh with an Athlon 2400.. :)
