I don't know how 1080p looks at 27" so I won't comment on that. I would have specced a 1440p monitor, but you wouldn't be able to 'Max out' on everything with a single 290.
The monitor above gets very good reviews though, and has motion blur technology.

Swapped the 290 for the Gigabyte. The warranty support is excellent (UK based)

The ssd comes with a copy (Code) for watchdogs

The board comes with a free headset

The case is personal preference, but the Phanteks case is only a few days old, and it is very good. The airflow should be better than the antec.

The WD Black drives are overpriced, so swapped for a Blue.

The Ereboss will cope fine with the i5, so no need for the H100i.

The EVGA psu has a 10 year warranty, and will allow for crossfire.

thanks for the advice made some revisions based on them, stepped down a size on the monitor as i thought it might match the ps4 a bit better?

system that this replacing is
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
OCZ ReaperX HPC 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz
Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 x2 in crossfire
Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card
Zalman Reserator XT Water Cooling
its been a pretty awesome machine never requiring any sort of maintainance really but it is a bit noisy and the reserator takes up a fair bit of room.
iam proberly going to give it to my parents so was thinking of putting a 60g ssd drive in there for windows would that be ok on a motherboard that old?

thanks again

Few things:

PSU is too big for a single card. Get a good quality 650w or 750w. If you plan to crossfire I'd be more comfortable with a 1000w. Superflower is a great brand (the psu you listed is made by superflower as are all EVGA psus in that particular range).

GPU: I'd take a powercolor or tri-x over the gigabyte. Better coolers. 1 year less warranty though. That's up to you I guess.

SSD do you really need a 500gb SSD? 250 is usually fine for games and windows.

Case: it's a great case. My girlfriends PC has the same specs as yours pretty much, with the same case. However it only comes with one intake fan (front) one exhaust (rear). I had to add an additional intake and exhaust (top) to deal with the hot air a 290 dumps into the case. That being said ambient temps are 26-30 here which makes a difference. However consider getting a few extra fans.

Finally consider upgrading to a 4790k I7 If you plan on adding another graphics card down the road (remember point one).

Either way, looks like a great system. Hope you enjoy!

P.s. You have no DVD rw drive in, is that intended? (Not that you need it nowerdays but I know).

The psu will be fine for 290cf. The cost of a 650W fully modular is only £20 or so cheaper anyway. I think it is best to have a cf/sli ready psu so that you don't have to change it 2/3 years down the line should you decide to go for a higher res monitor.

I have never seen any complaints regarding the gigabyte cooler. The tri-x can have issues too (Rattling fan shroud) from what I have read. The warranty support with gigabyte is excellent (UK based) I am not sure what the deal is with Sapphire.

You can never have enough storage :D

I won't comment on the case, as that is personal pref. I think the Phanteks is better, but that is my opinion.

The op might be able to salvage the dvd drive from his previous build ? Failing that i would probably go for an external one and then stick it in a drawer after installing the o/s.

The 850w would be cutting it close if you are pushing overclocks, and fine if your not. Although if your not planning on xfiring I'd still get a slightly reduced psu, no point wasting money.

The wind force cooler had plenty of issues in the first few batches. I imagine it's been corrected by now, but it still had those issues of high temps and noise. Also they use elipida memory as well as Hynix, the tri-x and sapphire only use Hynix.

The Gigabyte R9 290 pulls 219W under gaming according to the review on kitguru. Under stress (Furmark) it pulls 299W.

And like i mentioned earlier, you are only saving just over £20 between a 650W and a 850W as a like for like.

Not gonna keep derailing the topic any more but yer for £20 it's ok. For crossfire 850w will be ok without monster clocks on CPU, and gpus. Either way to the OP the spec is great and hope you enjoy!

so after much late night browsing and deciding to bust the budget a bit, i think this is what i have settled on and will order it over the weekend unless anyone can see any errors. went for 16g memory in the end just cause i know it will bug me if i dont i presume it is compatable with motherboard etc

Do you still have the reserator xt ? I'm looking for one to build an external watercooling project thanks
