First Build SOS

What motherboard do you have ?

Some motherboards have a power switch on the motherboard itself, its one of the ways I discovered that the Zalman Z9 case I purchased doesnt come with the power switch connected by default and it took me a lot longer than it should to figure it out.

Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H Socket FM2+ VGA DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard

Whilst I won't rule it out, I don't think it does have a switch on it. Also, as the old mobo didn't power up (it did previously) I'm thinking it's either a PSU problem or else I've managed to completely destroy 2 mobos in the act of taking one out of the case and putting the next in :s

Have you got a spare power supply to test so that you can rule that out? Seeing as you were planning on building your own gaming PC you could order one for that and test if that is the problem.

The only extra PSU I have knocking about is in my current PC, and given the problems I'm having I'm not wanting to bring that into the mix aha :P That's not a bad shout... although I guess it might be just worth buying a new PSU for this build as it was mentioned originally as not being great.

There was one suggested:

XFX TS 430W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply

Do you have any thoughts on it before I make the order?

for your hardware the XFX TS 430w is ideal. Ive recentley bought the XFX XTR 750w for my system and im impressed with it. that impressed I bought a second one for a system I was building for a mate.

That xfx 430 will be fine.

Very quick update, I get paid quarterly so probably won't be able to get the PSU until the start of April. As such I'll probably go a little quiet until then, but as soon as my money comes in I'll order the PSU, try it our and report back.

Thank you all so much for all the help thus far. Know I say it a lot but it's because I'm genuinly so greatful for all the ideas and support you are all giving.

See you in a month.
