Hi Guys,
So I recently finished my first ever build and thought I would share it on here. Overclockers community has been a huge help during this build so I would like to take the time to thank everyone as well.
This all started when a mate of mine finally convinced me to transition from console gaming to pc gaming. When looking to get in to pc gaming I very quickly found so many custom builds I thought well I might as well build my own whilst I'm at it. This is the result!
My Build:
Motherboard: Maximus Viii Hero
CPU: Intel I7 6700k
CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i AIO
Ram: Kingston Hyper Fury 2 X 8GB
Graphics: EVGA FTW 1080
SSD: Samsung Pro 850 250gb
HDD: 2TB Seagate
So as I have already finished my build I thought I would post a couple of progress shots that I took throughout the process.
This was The start of my Journey! Everything had arrived barring the FTW 1080 that I had pre ordered!
Finally this beauty arrived
Build underway!
At this point I wasn't sure if I was going to go with Green or purple fan rings - I ended up going green
The design aspect was starting to take shape
First attempt of Cable Management
So I thought that my build was pretty much done however it was annoying me how open to psu was and that you could see all the cables plugged in to it so I decided to build my own custom PSU shroud.
Thanks to Overclockers I had a lot of spare boxes to use as my template for the shroud!!
I used the cardboard template to cut out the same size shroud using an acrylic sheet. I used a cheap heatgun to bend it as well.
The shroud fit perfectly in the case however I noticed that i would struggle to plug in my usb headers and case headers so i needed to cut out strips to allow the cables to be plugged in to the motherboard
The shroud fitted perfectly - now for the design!
I found a logo I wanted and printed it out onto adhesive backed paper which is basically like printing out your own stickers.
Then came the hard part. I had to cut out all the little shapes of the stencil and stick them on the shroud. I placed another image of the logo on the inside of the shroud to use as a template so that I could stick on the stencil correctly.
This took an incredibly long time as some parts of the stencil were so small and fiddly.
Next I cut out the HAHA's and stuck them on the top piece of the shroud. This was a lot easier but cutting out the area's between the A's were sometimes a little tricky.
Next I spray painted the entire shroud and started to peel off all the stencils
First test with LED's behind the shroud to see how it would look.
And this was the finished article!
The Joker logo looks more purple than it does in the pictures and the only other thing I forgot to mention is that I had to run a small piece of card behind the shroud to separate the LEDs which meant I was able to have the joker Logo purple and HAHA's Green.
From my PS4 to this has been quite a journey, and an expensive one at that but I am so pleased I did it. Building my own Pc's has been one of the most satisfying and rewarding projects I have ever done!
Let me know what you guys think and any suggestions/critique are welcome!
