Darn! My first build just will not POST.

I (think) I have everything in properly. When I power on my system, the system fans whirl up but the CPU fan does nothing at all. I get nothing on my monitor.

My specs are:

EVGA 680i
6600 Conroe
Geforce 8800GTX
2GB Corsair
Seagate HDD
tagan Dual Engine PSU (800 watt)
X-Fi
Silverstone case
etc

Any obvious or not so obvious suggestions?

EDIT: When I turn the system off, the CPU fan gets a little "jolt" and spins for, like, half a second.

I'm sure it's in the correct one.

Any obvious things I might have missed?

Something just popped into my head: did you put the little rubber things behind the mothoboard? If the mothorboard is coming into direct contact with the metal case you could be shorting something  My friend did that with his first build, luckily he realised what he'd done and turned it off quick!
My mobo didn't come with said things, nor did the install guide mention them. My case came with metal spacers; I used them.

OK, now my system will not turn on full stop. As soon as I switch the PSU on, the fans whir for only a second, then there are no signs of life.

My Christmas is wasted

There's an aux graphics power input on the motherboard. What should be plugged into it? Standard molex, or the molex marked "VGA"? The manual does not appear to say anything on the matter.

Heh yeah my mate cudda had a bent mobo :p Regardless, the lack of spacers almost destoryed his mobo! The OP has used his spacers so yeah, on to the next suggestion!
Aye, the mobo isn't making contact with the case at any point. It's a bit late tonight to try an out of case build, but I'll maybe give it a shot tomorrow. I just want to be able to enjoy my Christmas present.
