Hi ya i am wanting to buy a new computer, from one of the ready made spec, but i am wanting to know if there is anything else i need, for example sata cables or does it come with all of them, and will i need any of that artic silver stuff for the cpu or does it come with it own.

thx for your advice this is going to be my first build, so a little worried, dont want to forget any parts

The CPU doesn't come with any but the stock fan does come with some paste applied. If your buying a third party cooler than you may want to check. Some come with pre-applied some don't.

thx for the quick reply, the cooler that was in the spec was the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler, should i be looking at getting some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) stuff

thx just the thermal paste stuff, do you use those anti static band when building a computer, i never have when puting little thing like ram in and grafic cards in but this seem like there a high chance of breaking it due to prating around and building it

Motherboards usually come with at least 2 sata cables, most mainstream ones have 4 and the higher end boards might have 6 or more, so I wouldn;t worry about sata cables for now since you have only one optical and one disc drive. As far as TIM goes, don't scrimp, I think the artic cooler comes with some but its usually not great, the stuff that came with my TT was like dried cack, fortunately I had some OCZ freeze, that or artic silver 5 or mx2 will all do the trick.

As far as the wrist band goes you can take precuations like grouding yourself and working on a wooden surface and not moving about too much, especially on carpets, but l would get the wrist band for peace of mind.

Well if you intend to take your PC apart every 6 months like some people do and clean it you'll need a tube of artic 5. If you don't intend to do that don't buy anymore. Just make sure you attach the freezer pro to the mobo outside of the case and make sure the push pins are fully through, then you won't need to bother with it again.

Is it possible to build your rig near a radiator or tap. Thats what I did built my rig on a kitchen top and touched the tap every few minutes just to earth myself. If I walked over any carpet I touched the tap or a radiotor before working on my PC.

i was thinking of getting large Anti-Static ESD PC BUILD Mat & WRIST STRAP from the bay are they any good it only £10 anyone got experence with them

My dad always tells me to do that! Sound advice!

thx will order it tomz, prob have many more questoin on this build, scary being my first build and not me pay lol

Even earthing yourself against the case will do the job, I really cant see the point in the extra expense of a wrist strap when touching the metal inside the case before touching the parts does the same thing. Just make sure you earth yourself against the case and hold the parts by the edges and you'll be fine. :)

I built my new rig on a carpeted floor. Rubbed my feet n all! Just touch the metal bit of the case every time you do something in the case. Although now I do wear one of those static wrist bands.. just in case. I attatch it to the case ;)

He can do this but many people, and I recommend he do this too, build outside of the case and may not even have it closeby. Building outside of the case means less hassle if the thing doesn't post.

martian aphid what do you mean by build out of the case, just put the ram and the cpu in, then place in the case or turn on with out case

I'd say band def not worth a tenner! So your paying £10 basically not to touch the nearest radiator? Seems daft to me. If your really bothered why not just cut up some old cable, tie it to radiator and tap it with your foot whenever your doing stuff in your case?
