Hey Guys

I am looking to build my first computer. I have been searching around and looking at components. I know a bit about components and have selected these, I was just wondering if it should work together and will not explode when I load it up. Also, could anyone recommend a good thermal paste and heat sink for the CPU.

EDIT: Also budget is £1000-1200

NZXT Phantom Enthusiast Black
Corsair TX CMPSU-850TXUK 850W
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
AMD Phenom II X4 965
XFX HD 5870 1GB – HD-587X-ZNFV
4GB Corsair Memory Vengence DDR3
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
Samsung DVD Writer – SH-S223C/BEBE

Tidy and Cheers,

Naztexz

All will work together but you can save some money looking at a lower PSU and go for the Samsung F3 1tb hard drive.

Also you could change the CPU to the 955 :)

I agree with RJC, about the CPU, HDD and PSU. Even if you add another 5870 you'd need to overclock like crazy to get anywhere near justifying an 850W PSU.

If you really want to stick with an 850W unit then this one is better:
XFX Pro 850W Core Edition 80Plus Bronze £85

as it is more efficient and cheaper. You could just as easily get the 750W version of this PSU. Or spend about the same and get a modular 750W PSU.

How much is your budget for a heatsink and paste? I can only really guess that the rest of the components should cost you around £900.

What do you want to do with your computer?
When do you need it by? Intels new release is due 9th Jan
Re paste n heatsink I'd just go for MX3 and Titan Fenrir Evo

I will be using the computer for a lot of gaming but also my uni work which is the creation of said games.
I do not need the computer as soon as possible, but will be getting it soon.

What is intel releasing?

I would downgrade psu to 750w and get amd 6 core cpu. Also get the arctic cooling cpu cooler. @ £20 its a really good buy

I'd say wait a couple of months for UEFI motherboards and intel's Sandy Bridge. Even if the new hardware turns out to be not as good as predicted, the prices of the current chipsets will come down :)
