Hi.

I'm doing my first build in the next week or so. Placed the order and just waiting for the case to come back in stock. The components I've chosen are:

Intel Core i3 2100, 1155, Sdy Bridge, 3.1GHz, 5 GT/s, GPU 850Mhz, 3MB Cache, Core R 31x, 65W, Retail

Asus P8H67-M LE Rev3, Intel H67, S1155, PCI-E 2.0 x16, DDR3 1333, SATA 6Gb/s, RAID, MATX, VGA

8GB(2x4GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333), NonECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, New Connector, 1.60V

500W Corsair CMPSU-500CXUK Builder Series, 80% Eff', 120mm Fan, Single Rail, ATX

1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9ms, NCQ

LiteOn IHAS124-19 24x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, SATA, Black, OEM

Fractal Design Define R3, Black Pearl, Mid Tower Case w/o PSU

Maybe a bit late to ask for any advice really, seeing as I've already made the purchase, but I reckon that will be enough for my needs. I intend to get a graphics card a bit later on, so will have to manage with onboard for the time being. Not that bad on these Sandy Bridge chips I heard?

I think the most I will do with this system is play a few games very occasionally, and I'm not going to get upset at not being able to run them with the settings turned right up.

Possibly a bit of an overkill with the case, but it jumped straight out at me, and I really want something that doesn't scream nerd (had an ugly Chenbro Gaming Bomb for the past 7 years, and it looks pretty childish imo).

So yeah, my first post, and looking forward to getting on with it all. If there's anything urgently wrong with my specs then it's probably not too late to make an adjustment to it seeing as the case is going to take a while to arrive back in stock. Let me know if there's anything I might have missed or need to consider.

Cheers.

Firstly remove the link to the competitor or you'll get yourself a warning from a moderator! lol now to read the rest of the post....

Sandybridge onboard graphics is pretty good! Check out these benchmarks of integrated graphics from a i3-2100.

How much did you end up paying out of curiosity?

I wouldn't say the case is overkill, I tend to think cases are a personal choice based on the what you like the look of (and it will last you a very long time anyway!)

Anywho, Yeah I can't see any problems there.

What mate? How exactly have I broken a rule?

No need for 8GB or DDR3, by the time you'll need 8GB we'll all be on DDR4 and beyond. 4GB (2x2GB) is plenty.

Apart from that it looks OK, you obviously realise you won't be overclocking by using the 2100?

As for the onboard graphics, granted they've come on in leaps and bounds but they're still not good enough for the latest graphically intensive games.
You'll get away with a few indie games perhaps but forget playing any of the latest big blockbusters on anything other than very low quality with poor frames per second to boot!

You need to take that competitors name out of your post as sk82jack mentioned, the moderators don't take kindly to advertising the "enemy" ;)

Ok, post edited. Excuse my ignorance.

Paid just under 450 for the lot.

Right so 4gb would do fine then? Would I really not see any benefit from the 8gb?

As for the graphics, as I said in the first post I will be getting a graphics card a bit later on with a budget of maybe 70 max. Considering the existing spec (with either amounts of ram) to what extent could I push the system games-wise with a card of roughly that price? I think that seems like the best way for me to gauge it.

Thanks.
