Hey, been browsing the forums for a while but only registered yesterday. Been looking to buy a new pc for a while now but a friend of mine suggested I should build one. Never built a pc before but I know a couple friends who have so I will be picking their brains.

Basically I would like to build something that will last me a while and be upgradeable in the future.

I will be using the PC for gaming, web browsing, watching videos, films etc.

My budget is £800 including OS, Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard and Speakers.

Here is a spec a friend of mine helped me with.

Case: Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Socket 1155
CPU:Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Ivybridge
CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 550Ti 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Low Profile Vengeance
Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB 3.5" SATA-III 6Gb/s Barracuda Hard Drive
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Optical Drive: Something Basic £15-£20?
Monitor:Samsung SyncMaster S22A200B 21.5" LCD DVI Monitor
Mouse: Basic Mouse?
Keyboard: Basic Keyboard?
Speakers:Logitech LS21 2.1 Speakers

Also would it actually be cheaper and worth while building it myself?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Hi,

Firstly, yes its better to build it yourself, you get much more bang for your buck.

Secondly, your spec you have listed looks pretty good apart from two things I would change.

1) The GTX550ti isnt particularly fast, these are faster,

2) The cooler is a bit naff, try one of these,

Is that MSI HD 6850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 better than the GeForce GTX 550Ti 1024MB GDDR5?

Also do I actually need a CPU cooler? Is it recommended?

Thanks for the help guys :)

The 6850 is a better card.
You can use the stock cooler that comes with the Cpu and still get a good OC to 4.2Ghz. But anything more than that would require a good after market cooler, due to higher temperatures.
