Ford Fiesta 1.25 16v Zetec 97-99

I know I don't want to go for a 1.3 8v older engine. Looks like a good all rounder. Any major drawbacks? PAS?

Ford Escort 1.4i 16v (or similar sp. eds) 96-98

Can still manage the insurance on this but would have to go a little older with higher mileage to be able to afford it. Get more for my money with e/w, PAS, CL, some with sunroof etc. Current favourite.

Fiat Punto 1.2 S60 97-99

Good Fiat engine but poor interior, lack of electrics and PAS. I'll be doing a lot of city parking so unsure.

Renault Clio 1.4 RT (or simliar) 95-98

Can get a 5 door here no probs. Most with e/w, PAS, CL etc. Not overly keen on this though and I'm not sure why. Does this have a bit of nip about it?

Citreon Saxo 1.1Xi (or simliar) 96-99

Unsure here, seems a good all rounder again.

Peugeot 106 96-99 or 306 95-98

Unsure again on the small French cars.

Vauxhall Astra 1.4 95-98

Not keen on the old shape, my least favourite.

I've tried to be honest, and get my thoughts down, but I'm very tired. Hope you can make some sense of my options and if anyone can offer help and advice on any of the models I've considered, or indeed offer some more alternatives, it would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi, and where can you actually get a

Ford Fiesta 1.25 16v Zetec 97-99

For £800?

I'm in the north east. There's a few available for that price. There's even a few '96 models at ~£600.

Fox]The Escort is dire, if you want something larger than a Fiesta the Mondeo is better than the Escort in every possible way.

I had a chat with rG-tom last night on MSN and he did a bit of Mondeo pimping. To be honest I'd overlooked it thinking the insurance would be too much, but I'm suprised. I'd have to go for a 97-98 1.8i LX at around £700 though. Any comments here?

When did the facelift start? From what I can tell it looks like 1998/R

I'm going to be lucky to be able to get a GLX facelift version on my budget unfortunately :(
