hi guys,

im looking at getting a saxo vtr or 106 quiksilver for my first car and just wanted your opinions on what i should get/which is the best of the 2 and which is the faster of the 2 :p

cheers

Have you got a driving license yet?

Age/Gender (guessing male)/location/what you going to use the car for would be helpful.

Depending on where you'll live, you'll probably have a hard time insuring a Saxo VTR or 106 Quicksilver.

Have you ran any quotes for either of those cars?

The Quicksilver is a 1.4 IIRC, the VTR a 1.6.

well i ran a quote online, moneysupermarket think it was for a 1.1 106 just to see what it was and it turned out to be £1100 so i changed it to a quiksilver which was £1500 and the vtr was also £1500 dunno if these are bad quotes u tell me

oh yeah the area is outskirts of bath , radstock, south west england

Aren't both of those cars silly expensive to insure at the age of 17 and with 0 driving experience?

Will depend on the area really, as some people seem to be able to get insured no problem, but for my area at 17, it would have cost £3-4,000 to get insured. So checking what insurance is going to be like and if you can afford it is the big thing, as it could well be more than the car is worth. Adding parents onto your policy as named drivers and doing pass plus both can help drop the cost a little though.

They're pretty reasonably in my opinion, try adding what I said above with parents/pass plus, see if that'll help drop the quotes a little.

They're not bad quotes, but tbh if you post a thread asking which is the fastest... and it involves a VTR, you will end up backwards through a hedge :)

ok bit of a silly question, that was third party fire and thefr btw

Basically, if you hit anybody, the insurance will only cover the cost of the other car(s), not your own, and will also cover fire, and theft.Fully comp will cover you including the other parties.

If you're happy to accept that if you do have an accident you'd have to pay for any repairs / replacement parts / etc for your car yourself, then third party is fine to have, just fully comp gives you more piece of mind.

Wasn't having a go or anything. It's just... 17 year old + Saxo VTR = not a good mix really. :)

And yeah, that's a good quote. I'm paying £1500 for my Rover 220. And I'm sure a lot more young people have crashed Saxo VTR's than Rover 220's.

Considering you're pretty highly likely to have an accident in the first couple of years of driving, are you sure you want to have to fork out for any repairs yourself?

That's why it's very wise to not get such an expensive car as a first car.

I find a £500 rust bucket (or not... as I found out) car can suffice for the first few years of driving.

My £500 Rover 214

/cries :(
