First Car

As the title says i want to know what would be a good first car for me.

I want enough pulling or pushing power

and it not to be a cut and shut.

Recomendations?

Im 17, my budget for the car itself is £1000. I live in a reasonably safe area.

What type of clio though? I heard 1.4 rt's are quite alright...
