First Class Airfares - why so expensive?

I thought about doing it when I go to Japan for study, but then I thought how much of that could go towards paying for more course time :/
 
To me I just don't think it's purely worth it at all. I mean yes the service is better and you get way more room which is nice.
However - champagne to start (cute and all but I wont be drinking)
Personal screen with whatever else (take my lappy with extended battery life with a season of 24 thanks)
Selection of different meals - (pretty much still minging)

Most of the time my flights from the states here are overnighters anyways so generally just sleep through.
I'd much rather have the spare cash to spend unless business were paying for it.
 
Do what I do and use a carrier that lets you upgrade your seat to their premium service. I do this every time I fly to Orlando and it's worth the extra cash (which for some reason can be anywhere between £150 and £250 dependent on demand) for the extra entertainment, better meals, complimentary drinks and bigger seat.

Guess it depends on the airline then.

The service has generally been BETTER, however it's not ~6-8 times the price better!
 
Complete agree that its better, but people seem to seriously overplay the economy thing, ive never failed to fit into an economy seat comfortably :p
 
I fly business often when on company business...however I dislike their policy of only letting you fly business if the flight is more than 10 hours. I think this is a bit cheeky, it should be business everywhere.

One good thing about it is they offer you 75% the difference between buiness and economy if you choose to fly economy when you could fly business.

So, for example, if a flight to HK was 500 economy and 2000 business class 'd get £1125 paid to me if I flew economy. I'd take that every time!!

The best is when it is a last minute flight and the business class seats a hugely expensive :D
 
I kept myself amused during the 13 hour economy class flight from Amsterdam to Singapore by keeping an eye on the fellas I was with who were sat a couple of rows up from us and buzzing them on their handsets every time they looked like they were dropping off. I got bored after a few hours so played on the SNES for a bit then went back to buzzing them.

Agree, I regularly travel to Southern Spain via Jet2.Com or Monarch (the poor people airlines) and never had a problem with comfort despite my 6ft 3in 16stone frame. :)

£8k? I'd rather go by cruise liner!
 
sitting in economy is like the airline saying, "i'll give £1000+ and a TV and a meal (although its rubbish) to sit infront of some whining kid for 10 hours rather than sitting in a quite place where we pay you nothing." I think that seems very reasonable to me :p
