First dable in 5.1

Hi all.

After moving my main system into my now office (was a second bedroom) my TV is hooked up to a Amazon Firebox. My 2.0 system has gone with it so I thought I would peruse Ebay for some stuff.

I happened upon some Kef KHT 1505 at a reasonable price so snapped them up, I now need an amp to drive them.

Budget wise as little as possible, because i'm not sure I am going to stick with 5.1, but I want something that can drive the Kefs reasonably and output 1080P, 5.1 and what ever else from my Firebox so it sounds and looks good.

Happy to go second hand if it means getting a bargain with people upgrading to 4k (I don't have 4k yet)

Any suggestions? As close to £100 as possible ideally.

YAMAHA RXV379 won the What HiFi award and I can get it for £200 from Richer Sounds if needs be

But was hoping to grab something even more bargain based because this will be replaced with a 4k receiver if I do stick with 5.1 and get a fancier TV in future.

Have you considered the Sony STR-DH550 - AV receiver - 5.2 channel with 4k passthru can be had for under £200 and even cheaper on the bay possibly. There is one at £75 at the moment BIN but its a bit beat up.

I've had Sony amps for years and just love the simple setup.

My friend bought that yamaha amp last week and it's a good bit of kit for the price.

I have that Yamaha amp and 5.1 Wharfedale speakers. RS gave me a discount over the phone @ £169.

I have the 850, really nice amp, apart from the hdmi and electrical issues :eek:

I should be picking up some Kef KHT1005 speakers (no sub unfortunately) tomorrow to go with an STR-DH520, this will be my first experience of home surround sound too. Not bad for £80 all in!
