ok guy's My cousin has just turned 17 and if been voluntered to take him for a lesson on the local industrial estate. (mainly cos i have a crappy banger apperently)
What should i get him to do for this 2 hours of clutch torture?
I was think clutch control on a slope, basic keeping a steady speed and starting and stopping. Anyone else got any thing else i can do within reason?

Don't hill start on 1st lesson to be honest.

Basic driving technique/test passing "correctness", clutch control comes with experience.

How much do they know about driving? Correct gears for speed is a good place to start. Get him to roll in 1st/2nd on the idle if your banger can manage it. So he can see that you don't need to be doing something all of the time just to have the car moving.

i live in the valleys hill starts arnt optinal tbh, he got a bit of off roading experiance not a lot as he prefers motor bikes.
My banger has a rev counters so ill get him starting and stopping by looking at that then move on to noise and feel once hes doing it with out wheelspining or stalling.

im gonna have to do the 10 to 2 hand **** arnt i, havent done that since passing my test. my cars may be a banger but all the mechanicals are in good nick so ill hav ehim pootle in 3rd and 4th as 1st is a bit to short its like a1:1 ratio which mean good acceleration (for a barge) but its too sensitive.

Totally depends on the person. I knew how to drive before doing lessons. I only took them for lesson passing and actual road experiance.

Can cover ALL technical and method in 1 or 2 lessons, the rest is sheer experience.

I had my first lesson yesterday. We went through changing gears. Out of the hour and a half I drove for around 50 mins. Lots of left turns on a normal little estate. Getting use to changing gears, stopping at junctions and stopping.

This mihgt give you a good idea. The guy said its important to pick up good habits. Like checking blind spot and mirrors etc.

Good luck

Well ive got him sat in the car changing gears with the clutch down whilst stareing froward atmoment. So hopefully he should get a feel for the gears instead of looking down every time.

Ok his first driving lesson and my clutch fells molested!!
He took about 10 minutes getttign the car moving with out stalling, but he was either revving the balls of it or just above stalling.
He needed a hand to depress the handbrake, is this a common problem with new drivers?

Funniest thing he managed to some how stall in 3rd gear going up a steep hill, He was so baddly panicking he forgot to press the brake or pull up the handbrake. So where rapidly gaining speed going down the hill backwards :D.
I quickly pulled up the handbrake. So where stopped on the slope i tell him hell need some more revs than normal, ten secounds later were doing a perfect rolling burnout up the hill as a copper was checking the estate for people dumping and boy racers being tit's.
A quick explanation and coppers giving him advise, i had him balancing the car on the clutch on the slope.

I have to repeat this monday night, i wonder if my clutch can take it :(

where in the valleys are you? just so I can imagine the roads :)

Ogmore valley/garw valley. above bridgend. so semi flat in places but steep areas in other, espically at my works where the lorry park is layered up the valley side's.(which is where im teaching him, nice marked and nothing to hit.)
He was beeming after he manged to stat the car and do a semi decent lap of the area, 1st was a bit bumpy but his gear changes were good.
