Hi all,

I know its probably been done loads of times before... but im seriously thinking about taking up a new hobby and shelling out on a DSLR?

Would the EOS 350D be a good starting point? I really want to stick to Canon's as i really like their kit.

Im looking on flee bay and have seen a couple at cheap prices... but it states that the lens isn't USM? Would it be best to get one with USM?

I will be most likely taking photos of scenery, landscapes and people. What other addition lens etc would people recommend or point out?

Any help would be great. :-)

Depends on your budget.
The camera is 400, another lens might be between 200-400.
As an all rounder, zoom, quality, etc etc. Canon EF70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM but it can be around 400quid
Cheapo cheapo look on ebay for some of the sigma range, some good lenses, for beginners, around a ton.

The 350D a good first DSLR the only issue i have with mine is it's physical size as it a bit small to hold comftable but a battery grip can fix that. With regards to lense i would stick with the kit lense for your landscape shots for now. While it's not a great lense if you use if at F8-F11 it compares quite well to lense costing £300+.

With regards to people i would consider the 50mm F1.8 which i find to be quite good for portraits and for the price (<£70) its hard to find any flaws in the lense. However it is a bit short some times and a lot of people prefer the 85mm F1.8 but that about 3 or 4 times the price of the 50mm.

If you do decide to purchase a DSLR welcome to a very expensive hobby.

i would recomend geting the kit lens with the camera as its a good lens to start off with. also something like the sigma 70-300 apo dg would be a good zoom to start with, got good coverage and the quality of the glass is prety good.

other than that it really depends on what type of photography you are planning to get into as what type of lenses you may need.
