I've just built my first dual core system, and have installed vista. Is there a way to limit a program to just one core so I can use the other for something else?

Also, do I need to install anything specific so Vista knows how to manage it? I assume not but thought I'd check.

Cheers

You set the programs affinity, task manager, go into processes, right click on process, set affinity.

It's not persistant, next time you open the program it will go back to using both Cores

Windows load balances your tasks across both cores automatically. There is no need to set programs manually and in fact doing so will result in performance reduction.

There are rare occasions when it's handy to know how to set affinity though, some old games don't like running on dual cores, also I remember a "game server" that would crash instantly if it was set to use more than 1 core

There is a little proggy (can't remember what it's called) that allows you to setup programmes to only use one core and it persistant.

Aye, the reason I ask is becuase I want to be able to have one core encoding whil th other core's free to do other things.
