Components sourced thus far:

Case: Fractal Meshify S2. £129
Nothing flashy but good basic case with good cooling.

PSU: second hand EVGA 850P2. £120
Way overkill for the rest of the system. Second hand but as new.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600. £151
Probably lowest spec item in the build, will look at replacing it in a couple of years with something a higher spec but it will do for the moment.

RAM: Patriot Viper 2x8GB kit. 4000MHz. £120
Good reviews on this. I understand it is 'B' die chips, so will probably perform higher than its list spec if I want to push it a bit, but the idea is that I can balance it to the CPU while staying well within its capabilities.

GPU: MSI Radeon RX580 Gaming X+ 8G. £140
Cheap and will cater for any video processing I need to do for work, and the odd gaming session. Not after top of the range graphics performance.

NVMe: Samsung970EVO 500GB. £110
For OS and video file processing. If I go with X570 chipset on the motherboard, I will probably use the other NVMe slots for some cheaper sticks than the Samsung as storage drives once the price drops a bit more.

SATA HDs: Western Digital 1TB drive £0
To be scavenged from my old Dell 8300 as a temporary measure until NVMe prices drop a bit more.

Total spend £770 to date

Motherboard: Still looking. Let us see what B550 brings to tie everything together, and so the wait begins....

You could get an NvME that's realistically as fast for around £70 over that Samsung, or a 1TB drive for £40 more.

You could also get a faster gen 4 NvME for around the same price.

For example:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £709.86 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Personally I'd pick up the SN550 or Kioxia, Samsung drives are grossly over priced for what they are.

You might want to go with 32gb of ram for video editing.

It's not heavy editing, but the board will be able to take another 16GB if needed, and I'll go for the same brand for matching so performance won't be too far off on the two pairs. (so it will be 4x8GB rather than 2x16GB).

Thank you, I'll take that under advisement.
