OK so after all your lovely help from this topic

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=23436108#post23436108

I've plumed for these bits.

Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced USB3.0
Seasonic X-Series 650w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard
Silver Arrow Extreme SB-E CPU Cooler (which is coming tomorrow)

And will be getting when the wallet permits!

Intel CPU Core i7 3930K
Pioneer DVR-220BK
Plextor 256GB M5 Pro Extreme SSD
Gigabyte 2GB GeForce GTX 680 3X OC Windforce 3X
Blu-ray Writer Quad Layer from Pioneer BDR-207EBK
WD 1TB Caviar Black Performance Hard Drive

I've finally made my first purchases and started the build off! All is going well so far with the Case and motherboard joined together!!! And I've started plugging everything in.

Here is where I'm up to so far.

As this is my first build I'm starting almost from scratch. I've installed most things in my current PC except for CPU/heatsink/fans in the past so sort of know where most things are, but as that was bought over 5 years ago, things have come on some, to say the least.

One question I do have if I may. From the top panel I've got everything plugged in fine except I'm not too sure about a couple of things. Do I need to have both the USB 3 and the USB 2 plugs plugged into the motherboard from the top panel? And I have a spare power plug from the top panel, does anybody know what it's for, it's one of the old 4 pin IDE male plugs?

I'm really getting into it now and can't wait until I can afford the CPU to finally get the thing powered up and running, HOPEFULLY!

I got the Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Xtreme just through the post, according to the instructions the Sabertooth X79 2011 motherboard that I've got does not need a back plate installing, is that right?

I dunno, I kind of like the old red/yellow/black cables reminds me of my first PC!

But I have hidden them as best I can.

Quite pleased with the right side not perfect as I've just stretched some of the bigger cables to the other side of the case just to get them out of the way and a couple of things are laying on top of others, but it's all fitted in!

Just need to fix the rear fan cable a bit better then I'll be happy with the inside. All I need now is the fan layout finalised and SATA cables routed.

This is my idea for a fan set up.

The way it looks is just down to personal preference I guess, I remember when all PCs were that lovely shade of notquitewhite! As for the fan set up, I'm no expert but I think you should have the top fans exhausting air, heat naturally rises so it make sense not to fight nature :P You should be able to put another intake next to the PSU to balance the intake/exhausts

Thanx for the tips.

So what would you guys think would be a good/adequate fan set up for all by bits on stock settings?

Thanx again for the tips, with your help me an my nephew have decided on this plan of action.

Can I please prevail on you guys a bit more!

I've got the Silver Arrow Extreme SB-E CPU Cooler now;

And have a couple of questions about it.

Firstly I've been watching a couple of videos of this and the older/cheaper models and they have a locking nut on top of the retention bracket. My kit has the spanner for the nut but not the nut! Is that right and I just use the two screws to tighten and hold it or am I missing something?

Also what sort of gap should I be looking for in between the heatsink plate and the CPU? Should I tighten the thing as tight as I possibly can?

OK, so I've got my new system up and running, but it's driving me NUTS. Everything is so slow and unresponsive not what I was expecting at all!

I'm still running an old spinner HDD but it's the same one I had in my old system running at 2.4 ghz and I got it booting in about 35/45 seconds, a lot of the time this new rig is taking ONE minute to load into Windows and then it takes ages to load anything and MSN takes minutes to load even at 4.1 ghz.

As I said I'm running exactly the same HDD exactly the same version of Windows 7 64 bit and I've even got another HDD in it with Windows Vista 64 bit on it and that is just as slow?

ANYBODY please help, any ideas on what is up or what I could be doing wrong?

Yep everything is as it should be in the bios.

I'm just running P95 now with it banging on the processor 100% and things seem faster, can anybody explain that to me?

No as I said I'm still using an old Spinner HDD, but the exact same HDD in a slower system last week was performing better?

I've just rechecked all the data and power cables and they seem fine, and they are the second set of sata cables as well as I bought some nice new slim ones.

I have got a Crucial V4 SSD that I've been playing about with in the old rig but that is only SATA 2, but I am going to try it tomorrow and install Win 7 64 bit again on that see how it goes?

OK, so I have tried a couple of things last night and this morning/afternoon and they have improved things greatly.

First and fore most the thing that has made the biggest difference was un-installing ASUS's AI Suite. The way the system was acting when it was installed it seemed as though that one program itself was trying to load from before the welcome screen and slowing everything down to a crawl. So that's been binned.

Secondly I'm currently just running one OS drive and the DVD-RW.

And lastly as I said last night I've tried the Crucial V4 SSD (which I've had speed problems with on my old rig) and that's helped again.

So all in all very happy with the resaults, unhappy that one program can make such a big difference!

Anyway, I'll be able to get back to the moving in process now, I've just finished installing Windows updates and some of my programs, not long to go to feel nice and comfy and it's only been 3 and a half hours since I first booted the Windows install DVD up!

I'll hopefully get some pictures and words up about the system soon too!

YAY, everything is installed and back plugged and going nice and fast, well as fast as an unofficially firmware updated SATA 2 SSD can go I think.

I've run the SSD through AS SSD Benchmark and it seems to be getting something like it's advertised speeds, for the first time since I bought it months ago. So now I'm going to leave it well alone until I get my next big buys, the GFX card and the SSD.

So here goes, some pictures of my system and it's cable (MIS) management.

I know it's a complete mess, but now at least I can get the right panel on without a lump hammer ;-)

Man that Silver Arrow is just simply HUGE, I'm more than pleased with the inside, for a first attempt, not bad.

Oh I know Somthing, its ok, I was commending the OP

A bit of editing here and ittl be fine

Some fancy editing there ;-)

Everything is still going well. All programs and features edit, installed and got rid of.

Now all that remains is to wait for PAYDAY!

Looking really nice, good job.
Just one thought for you, is there vent/grill under the psu?? If there is i'd be inclined to flip it over so it can pull in some cooler air, every little helps!! Although you do get the spec sticker the other way round :(

I was weighing up the pros and cons of doing that, but as the manual said that it was designed to be that way up i thought that I'd better leave it like it is!
