Hey guys, built my first ever intel system the other day after always been a faithful amd fan and decided to have a go at over clocking, read a thread that 8pack advised someone to start with. To sum it up, i changed:

core ratio on all cores to 43 (45 bsod'ed when windows started to load)
cache ratio to min 8 max 43
and the vcore to 1.25
and cache volts to 1.25
the ram is running at its xmp profile

this is all ive done so far, everything else should be on auto or whatever their defaults are. seems stable so far but is there anything i've missed or something else i should do to even get that 4.5 stable clock? im cooling with a h100i on a maximus vi hero motherboard. I'm not familiar even with all hew bios options but i couldnt resist but try and test the chip straight away as I hear how different these haswell chips are, wanted to see if it was a good one. (so far it seems average, but thats where you guys come in) :D

Well I've just ran prime 95 and in about a minute the system just hard locked up and I had to switch the power off which means im still not stable running prime. Temps reached 70c before this happened, so back to the drawing board I suppose :(

this thread now becomes a overclocking, where to start thread :(

Do you run prime as a primary task for your PC?? Then your wasting time using it as a test.

The above advise is sound although I would actually set XMP and mem test the system at stock CPU first to ascertain if your memory is working fine. Using XMP throughout set the above voltages and overclock.

Then test by using your PC as you normally would. Come back with any results / problems.

Thanx guys I shall try those settings. Didn't run into any trouble at 4.3 using windows but like I said, prime killed it in under a minute which worries me if I start gaming it might die mid game. I'll revert everything back to stock, set xmp and run men test to rule that out but to be honest I was running the ram flawlessly for well over a year in my amd system at xmp with no issues so I don't suppose the rams at fault. I'll report my findings later!

Is there any benchmarking apps I can install that's worth trying?

Thanx all, I'm home from work now so will start playing shortly :)

Although if 8pack is saying not to worry about prime I may have a gaming sesh this afternoon as is and see how it copes, I have just ran cinebench twice just to see and it was fine so maybe i'll spend the afternoon 'mucking about' and see how i fare!
