So as the title suggests, iPhone 15 pro max is my first ever iPhone, coming from a life long Android smart phone users is taking some getting used to but used Apple Maps for first time today, couldn’t find the Speedometer.

Am I to understand there is none in Maps then? If not, are people in the UK using some separate app that runs as a small box, overlaying Maps? Any suggestions?

Guess I could go back to Google Maps but seemed to nice use an intergrated feature on Apple.

Thanks all, yeah the settings option is purely for the speed limit, eg you’re in a 30mph area and such.

May just stick with Google Maps for driving then.

Oh you meant a live read out? Surely there’s what the speedometer is for?
I’m really anal about going at actual speeds not the 2 or 3 less it says you’re going at on the car speedometer. Eg when I see speed camera I go past them bang on, average speed zone I keep it bang on actual. I’m no hypermile freak but I just kinda got used to phone for maps, speed and such.

The phone will read out as well, if youre that anal about it why not get one of those fancy ones they use for official records?
iOS seems more than capable so just a floating overlay box with the speed would do, that you can just place in the corner of screen. Can’t find one though, just lots of generic looking dedicated speedometer apps that take up the full screen and at best collect data after the fact whilst you have another app open (I have Maps open), defeating the purpose.

Is there no such thing for iOS then? Floating overlays?

Oh man, how crazy. The concept of knowing one’s speed via an app that uses gps constantly to give you driving directions in realtime. Seems like a big ask on iOS.

What about a simple speedometer widget floating overlay whilst having Maps or Google Maps open?

Looks like Google limit it to Android only.

Give Waze a try.
I heard Waze sends you on all sorts of weird and wonderful routes just to shave off a minute when like most folks you’d rather just stay on the motorway and slow down for a short period than go through backroads. Is it possible to disable or change the overly aggressive re-routing?
