Hi guys, I have been researching recently on what components I should buy for my first ever gaming desktop PC. I have come up with a list of components which I will be purchasing to build this PC. If someone could take the time out to review them and see if they are good enough for my needs. I want this PC to play games on obviously, games like Minecraft, Sims 3, Crysis, BF3, Call of Duty, and Skyrim among others. Will this set up run these games? If so, at what settings/quality?

Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache

Cooler Master HAF 912 Case

Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 '80 Plus' Power Supply

OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

LG E1951S 18.5" Widescreen LED Monitor - Glossy Black

Logitech S-220 2.1 Speaker System

All of the above adds up to a total of £736.98 from overclockers website and that is already stretching my budget and I still need to add in an OS to this :(

That video card is complete overkill for such a small, low res, monitor. You could get something half the price...probably less.

Well I could always upgrade the monitor in the future, I just want a GPU which is powerful enough to run games like Skyrim and BF3 at top/good quality. What screen size would you recommend?

That would be a better size monitor for sure. I have a 23" and even then my system (in sig) runs Skyrim pretty much maxed out with good framerate. I think you would regret getting an 18".....I sometimes wish my 23" was a little bigger - and I sit very close to it :)

Yeah well the only problem I have is the budget, I might just buy a monitor at a later date and use an old Dell one I have for the meantime.

Just trying to save a bit of money. Anybody you know with a spare hdd they could lend you.
If you are a student, can you get an OS from college or uni. Or you could use win8, theres a free trail at the moment. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/consumer-preview this would save you £80.
Thanks for your help anyway :) and I do have a copy of Vista which came with my laptop, it says on it "reinstall disc" would that be the full version?

I have heard that Vista as a RAM hog though.

It will more than likely be tied to the laptop, manufacturers OEM.
