Right, So hoping to order my System today.

I cannot decide whether to have the system pre built by Overclockers or take the task on myself.

I feel confident in regards to putting the system together what concerns me is the initial switch on, Could anyone guide me to what I should be expecting?

I mean would I be required to mess around in the bios? Or could I just simply install Windows, would I need to update any firmware etc etc.

The system will be.

Gigabyte Z97X - Sli
Intel i5 4690k Cpu
Gtx 970 Ex Oc
Corsair Obsidian 450d
Evga Suoernova 750w PSU
Windows 7
Sk Hynix 256GB SSD
Kingston Hyper X 8GB DDR 3 - 2400Mhz

Will i have any conpatabilty issues? Will i have to change the ram speed and so on.

What tools would I require also with this setup?

First important thing is to check your volts and temperatures in bios to make sure your cooler is working and the voltages aren't silly.

On a stock cooler you should be looking at around 30c and vcore volts around 1.2 v or less.

You might night need to update your bios if volts are too high .

Don't run any stressful programs until you've then checked your windows temps in Hwmonitor.

You'll need to choose he relevant XMP profile for that ram but don't do that before checking temps are ok and I would get a better cooler as XMP profiles actually overclock your cpu and raise temps.

Thanks,

I think I could do it to be honest but not sure if I should risk a 1k build as my first perhaps as if something goes wrong then I don't really have anyone to come sort my mess out due to not living at home atm.

Still pondering haven't ordered yet. Recieved a quite from OcUk I would have thought individial prices would be shown to I spec'd an OcUK DVD drive and its been changed out to a Samsung... Do I have to pay the difference it dosen't say and I don't really fancy playing email tennis :D

Whats the price difference between you doing it and getting OCUK to do it?

Is the extra money worth the extra piece of mind to you?

Yeah perhaps will do see if there are any details.

And to be honest it's just the 7-12 days wait aswell as the extra cost on top of an already over stretched budget. But looks like I will have Ocuk build it :D let them work the magic.

Spot on! I just liked the Ram as it would match the Mobo.

And I went for a 750w incass any future upgrades e.g SLI GTX 970 / New Single Card or other upgrades such as H100i etc therefore resulting in the system being more future ready or should I not bother?

Just spend the week watching something on Netflix. There's a whole 10 seasons of stargate SG1 on there you know! :p

Yeah Netflix is handy:D I'm pretty busy but just hate expecting something.

To be honest, to save some money I may go for the Evga 290 DD at £199 the performance between that and the GTX 970 and in a few years can always upgrade to a new single card due to power as with the 970 could have gone SLI.

IS this a good decision? I mean GTX performance looks better FPS wise higher average in most things but for £199 instead of £250 on an already stretched budget seems very appealing to cut that corner for the time being.

Instead of 179.99, 166.66 Evga 290 DD. Must be worth going for! Edit .. then vat

To be honest as long as you do some research so you know A) how to install the parts and B) they are all compatible there is very little that can go wrong, just take it slow and steady.

The most tense bits are seating, CPU's, GPU's as they require a little bit of force sometimes and the creaking of the motherboard can be a little disconcerting.

I think the advantage of getting OCUK to do it would be their experience and that they can troubleshoot.

I have built 3-4 computers over the years and a couple of times I've got to the grand 'power up' moment and nothing has happened and had to spend another hour or so pulling it apart to find the RAM wasn't seated 100% or a cable had come out.

Nothing like the sense of accomplishment and excitement when it does come to lift though and you know it was mostly your hard work.

I've done 10 full builds and they've all worked out in the end and I am mr disaster normally.

Just run your spec past the forum members and you'll know you're buying good value for money compatible stuff.

I think I am the oldest member on here and I built my first build last year - Mine all in with other bit's not listed below was just over £1k - if I can do it you can.

It's a nice feeling when you turn it on and all goes well - Being old I treble checked everything.

Good luck

Dave

Yeah think I may have a go. Just concerned in regards to updating Bios etc will have to look up how to do that.

Rather than buy a toolkit with no doubt 10 things I wont need, What should I have ready?
