Ok iam off out today to buy my first game on my new system and i`ve narrowed it down to 2 games after looking at so many

Elder scrolls v Skyrim
Witcher 2
iam probably going to buy one of these high st shop or maybe tesco

whats peoples view on these two and dont mind other suggestions as well

Also could someone explain to me what the difference is in buying the disc from shop or downloading via steam please

Out of those two, I'd get skyrim. I have them both and find the combat on TW2 fairly boring and ininspiring.

As for disc vs download, disc will probably install faster, you get the box with instructions etc that you can sit on your shelf. Downloading is easier, just click a button then leave it overnight and you can play it the next morning and you don't have to worry about losing discs.

Get Skyrim and it could be cheaper if you get it from a shop, it will activate on steam so the only difference would be price.

Iam still very new to gaming and iam not sure what mod is really so could you explain please

Modifications to the game. Some games are designed with customisation in mind and end up with huge communities of people creating new content for games.

For example in Skyrim you can look for mods on websites or through the steam workshop that add new quests, new weapons, new areas or just balance the gameplay a bit more.

Obviously you can play the game completely "vanilla" without any mods and have a great time, but mods can add a lot more to the experience or mix it up when you play through a second time.

That said, I couldn't play Skyrim without this mod. I'd say it's essential.

Ok this sounds even better so is it a simple thing to do to add a mod

Yes, when you start adding lots and lots or big mods it can be a bit of a pain when you start getting conflicts, but generally it's dead easy, just extracting a bunch of files into a folder.

Steam workshop has made it even easier for Skyrim since it was introduced. You just brows for mods, click subscribe and the mods are installed when you next launch the game.

Ahh you buggers. I can't get out and you've just made me buy Skyrim!

I have it on the 360, but want "My little pony" dragons!

Ive managed to buy Elder scrolls v Skyrim today and currently installing this via steam.
Regards to mods which mod would you suggest i start with

Skyrim is much the better game in my opinion. Couldn't get into Witcher 2 at all.
