If you're getting an aftermarket cooler, make sure you buy the OEM processor and save a few quid. It won't come with a stock cooler and will be less on the warrenty, but CPUs basically never fail (unless you really push them to the limitd and ignore massive temps).

I would say that is bad advice. For the actual cost difference between retail and OEM I would say that it's 100% worth the extra 2 years warranty and a 'spare' stock cooler. It also helps having the stock cooler if you want to resell later on.

I like the idea of the 2 years extra warranty and having the stock cooler in case I do need to sell it on. Thanks for the tips on the memory, I wouldn't have thought about that physical conflict, good advice!

That's why were here. :)

It's well worth the extra 2 years and a stock cooler (paperweight).

How many CPUs have you had die on you? Or know personally any that have gone?

Excellent, all ordered and hopefully will be with me tomorrow, first build here I come! Many thanks again for all the tips on here guys, looking forward to putting it all together, and then kicking back to enjoy some quality gaming, from an Xbox 360 to this should be quite the leap in quality I'm hoping!

Your point would be valid if you were saving the guy £30 - £40 but since you aren't it's not ;)
It's an extra £5 for 2 years warranty and a spare cooler.

How many coolers do you know that go belly up? I know plenty personally. Not having a spare would be annoying wouldn't it? Especially if you knew it could all be avoided by spending £5.

If you wanted to upgrade your CPU in a year, do you think that being able to sell it with 2 years warranty and a brand new unused stock cooler might make a better sale? Hmmm.

It's not a tough one is it :)
