Looking to get my first gaming computer and have heard a lot of good things about this site. Problem being i'm not as computer savvy as i used to be and don't know the thing about building a computer so was looking at some of the pre-built ones. Basically i'm looking for a good gaming computer to play the Sims 3, Left for Dead, Battlefield etc along with a monitor. Also need it to have Wifi access and Windows 7. Whats the best deal i could get within a £750 price range?

Thanks for your help :)

Building computer has not changed massively, if you have build one before then it won't be too different from building one now. It may be actually be easier due to the easy availability of online guides.

OCUK do a decent range of pre-built system but you will probably get more for you money if you choose to self build.

Just had a look in the pre-built section (not somewhere I venture too often) I have found this.

YOUR BASKET
1 x "Vortex i3" Intel Core i3 3220 3.30GHz DDR3 Gaming Dual Core System £499.99
1 x BenQ GW2250HM 22" Widescreen LED Professional Monitor - Black £99.95
1 x TP-Link 300Mbps High-Gain Wireless-N USB Adapter (TL-WN822N) £17.99
Total : £637.43 (includes shipping : £16.25).

There seem to be a bit of a gap in the range for a complete system for around the £750 mark. If you do go for this then it would be worth a phone call to see if they will up the graphics card to a 2Gb 7850 or even a GTX660 and maybe a slightly better quality PSU as well, something like this.

Have a look around in there and see if you can find anything better, although I would stay away from the AMD Bulldozers, their performance is poor when compared to the Intel processors.

If you were willing to self build something like this what you wold be looking at.

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H785QN2G2M) w/ FARCRY3, Nexuiz & Sleeping Dogs PC Games £155.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3330 3.00GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £143.99
1 x BenQ GW2250HM 22" Widescreen LED Professional Monitor - Black £99.95
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) £83.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99

1 x BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black £28.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £25.99

Compared to the pre-built one it has a quad core CPU, 2GB 7850, and a Z77 motherboard. The Z77 motherboard makes it easier for you to upgrade to a more Powerful CPU later if you want, as it will allow overclocking of socket 1155 'K' series CPU, such as the 3570K.

Sorry for butting in, but I just wanted to say thanks to Fire_Fly; I had a similar query to the OP and your suggestions are perfect for what I'm after. Now just to decide whether to try self-build!

It might be worth making a thread in General Hardware about it, i'm sure other people will come up with different build options and more advice.

Buildings very simple, like a little puzzle but the pieces are expensive and delicate lol

The video up there is very good and really shows that as long as your patient then your be fine.

Will try building my own one someday but would rather get someone that knows what they are doing. Will have a good look at that Fire fly, will probably order one from here in the next few weeks, thanks.

Could the people at OC build this computer for me if i was to buy all these parts and if so how much do they charge?

I don't know if they offer that service or how much they would charge. Might be worth a quick post in customer service section to find out.
