so ive been looking for a while at gaming computers, learning basics, but im still unsure what it is i actually need for my purposes.

id like to be able to play elder scrolls online, preferably at ultra settings, but if its not in my budget then i can do without.

my budget is about £600 - £800, and ive found a few specs id like (i5, 16gb ram (although do i NEED this much memory?), and ive heard to go for GTX 960, 970 or 980.), but ive had trouble fitting all of them into my budget.

With or without the specs ive mentioned, what would you recommend for me?
i appreciate anyone who takes the time to do so!

A target spec you should be aiming for is something like i5-6600k, Z170 motherboard, 16GB DDR4, 250GB SSD, 1TB HDD, AMD RX 480 (when released), 550W Gold PSU.

However, you may need to make some compromises if your budget also needs to include a monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. In which case perhaps a i5-6400 + H110 motherboard, 120 GB SSD and perhaps 8GB ram (personally I feel this is a false economy as RAM is cheap currently and in future 16GB is going to be standard).

That target spec is pretty much exactly what i was looking for, however i think the new rx480 is gonna be out of my budget. what would be your next recommendation for graphics card? i was looking at GTX 970 4gb but apparently theyre riddled with problems.

thanks for your response.

Very much top end of the budget, but hoping that the RX480 comes in at about £200 and you get the intel rebate thing https://toptechcashback.com/, which I've not looked at personally, but apparently is pretty good, it should just squeeze in under £800 :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £607.11
(includes shipping: £13.20)

Edit, also just remembered that you should get free shipping with the RX480, so that will save some pennies

Well bear in mind the RX 480 will come in two versions, 4GB and 8GB. Obviously we don't know the prices yet, but it seems the 4GB should be sub £200. If you're gaming at 1080p then 4GB should be fine.

The GTX 970 is fine, it's a good GPU. But even with the recent price discounts it still isn't very competitive on price and so the RX 480 should beat it on both price and performance.

One word of caution about the RX 480 is that the reference versions don't seem to have a DVI output (custom versions might, but it's not known yet). But I'm guessing your TV is HDMI anyway?

Yeah my TV is HDMI. If the rx480 is that price then I guess that's the one I'm getting lol, thanks.
